Been a while since I have posted here, but I have been lurking around yet. Can anyone point me towards any of the hot topics/arguments in the last year or so??! Or is the "truck only" talk helping keep everyone politically correc?
ANYWAY:
My father has a completly restored '53 Chevy 3100 frame/running gear. Complete with a 12 bolt Olds rear, saginaw 4 speed and dual carb/cammed 235. All ready for a body. He is quickly running out of patience with his rusty cab and front clip, but there is a '56 body nearby in nice condition for a reasonable price.
My question is this: Can the '56 cab and box be reasonably bolted to the '53's frame. What about the steering column (stock)? The '56 does not come with a frame at all, just a cab, clip, and box. Any info appreciated.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | doesn't sound easy! the frames are different enuff it'd be a job to get the cab and front metal mounted properly, especially around the rad [different shape] and rad mount, where the TF front all attaches and aligns, and I think the columns come up at a steeper angle on the AD - I'd look for a better AD body

The 55 second series and later have straight frames from front to back as viewed from the side and they are also wider that the AD trucks. The AD frames go up and down a little as viewed from the side. Sounds like a big job to swap for a newer body style. There are a lot of AD trucks around here, but if they were scarce, I would take a cab off of a 1-1/2 to 2 ton truck to use for the pickup. Here the pickups were pretty well used up, but the grain trucks were only used a few times a year at harvest and then were put up in a barn. Just something to think about.
