For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 141 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 141 | Hi, Guys, My ol' '59 Apache (kept the solid axle) runs just great after all that engine and tranny swapping. BUT, I need a block and tackle to steer the damed thing when it's sitting still! I didn't like the after-market P.S. kit where you mount the box forward and outside the frame rail (you have to get rid of the front shocks, use a late-model steering column, etc.) I looked around at the old '79 Vette from which I'd taken the running gear, and lo-and-behold there's the 'Vette power-ram-assist system just begging to be used. It looks like a 'natural' to adapt the 'Vette sensor/valve unit to the drag link running to the left front spindle and run the hydraulic lines to the power ram which would run from the frame out to the center cross-link.
Anybody tried this?
