Hi all,
I made a run down to Southern New Mexico last weekend to pick up a loader tractor that I bought recently and I saw several stovebolts on my journey. In the little Community of House, I spied a fair 1954 half ton thats been there for as long as I can remember. In the Town of Fort Sumner, I did a bootleggers turn to scope out a cherry 1942 half ton truck with a for sale sign, no less. The owner came out and fired it up for me and it purred like a kitty. Tan with brown fenders, 12.5K. In Roswell, there is a yard on the North end of town that has only vintage iron. Good GMC cab, front fenders, doors, etc. and a couple of Chevys rolling in fair shape. One had great running boards and rear fenders, no doors. There are several salvage yards in Roswell and I saw lots of fatfenders hidden in there. My buddy's neighbor in Artesia had lots of 60's and 70's rolling iron and parts. I was going to visit with him for a carrier for my 48 - 3/4 ton, but it took longer to load my tractor than I anticipated. If anyone is interested in the 42, I got his number. Just e-mail me privately.

Heck, for $125 you should have picked it up. Or was that $12.50?

I had room on my trailer, but my wallet was kinda light. He sure wanted to deal, but if it took $100.00 to get to heaven, I could get to about Fort Worth. He had some chrome wheels on it, but had the originals in his garage. It was not show room condition, just a nice clean rust free driver. I have never heard a 216 so smooth. Made my 235 sound like a rock crusher.

Oldtmy,
Ever since my first trip out west this past May, all I've been thinking of, is moving out there and getting out of this HUMID southeast! I really liked the parts of New Mexico I traveled trough. Now with your post, I know I want to move out there! smile Now I know why they call it "the land of enchantment"! cool grin

COEjunkie,
Come on down. New Mexico has something for everyone. Skiing and mountains in the North and South, desert, high desert, mountains up to 11,000 feet, hunting, fishing and especially old iron. You can drive 2 or 3 hours and change sceenery completly. There are more cows in NM than people. I think thats a good thing.

COEjunkie,
My wife went to University of Georgia for one year as an exchange student. She also has relatives in Conyers (sp?) and right across the border in SC. She says its pretty there. I have never been east of Missouri.

Travel around Clovis if you are interested in old iron. I have spent a lot of time in your state and Clovis has a lot of ADs and TFs. They are packed in the back of peoples back yards.

I'm not sure what was happening during the 40s and 50s in the area but it surely must have required pickup trucks. Or maybe they just liked the idea of cruising in a truck.

Nice people, too.

Hi oldbluetruck,
I am just an hour north of Clovis. There are a lot of pickups setting out in fields in that area. I was cruising through Portales, just South of Clovis in the company truck one day and spied a row of round fenders and cab tops through the trees. I did a u-turn thinking I had found the holy grail of Chevy trucks. I did find the holy grail of old iron, but it was Studes. Some farmer has a collection of Studebakers about 30 strong. Every time I go to Clovis, I stop and look at several trucks, mostly AD's, because thats what I look for.

Hey Oldtmy, Georgia is not a bad place to look at, but I'm tired of the summer heat and liquid air! If my lottery tickets hit, I'll be heading that way! wink Would take some effort moving my ten old vehicles that far though! eek grin
