I couldnt find the thread where this was a few weeks ago.

My 39 gmc bed measures the same as the 40, 41-46 bed. There was some discussion that GMC may have gone to the wider bed earlier than chevy. I sent a email to Mar-k and this was the response. What are the differences?

Good Morning. I have a 39 GMC that I need a new bed for but there is

I contacted MAck Hill Inc and the help was great. Sounds like they will make what you want and the prices are better. $1250 and that includes the Oak Bed Floor. They are shipping me a catalog. Nice people give them a call if u need a catalog.

First GMC beds are all steel

39-40 and maybe earlier are the same 41+ is wider but if you use a 41+ set of rear fenders they are narrower and it should work

I've 41+ fenders on my 39 look in the gallery Little streachin' worked OK

Agreed the GMC bed floor is steel.

My 39 GMC has an inside bed width of 48 1/2 and a bed floor length of about 77"

According to Mar-k my bed width should be 45 3/4" with a length of 89 7/8"

They do not give specs for a 40 GMC bed. 1940-46 chevrolet show the same masurements as my 39 GMC 48 1/2"x 76 7/8".

I remember the earlier post. I have a 39 GMC with original metal floor. The floor width is 48 1/2 inches which is the same as 40-46 Chevy. The bed sides on my 39 GMC are 78 3/8 inches + or - while the bed sides on my 46 Chevy are 79 3/4 + or - so the wood floor kit for a 40-46 Chevy will work for a 39 GMC if you trim the ends to fit, but the length of the bedsides are different.

I have a '45 GMC with a wooden bed. I was convinced that the original steel bed was replaced with what is there now. I am not so sure now. When did GMC stop using steel beds? Would it have made sense that a War truck would have used a wooden floor to conserve steel?
I have seen Carter's offering a repro steel bed for GMC's in the catalog if you're interested. My local steel supplier can do them as well, with original style ribbing.

Au contraire! It's all GMC. Bed ID plates, tailgate. Just wondering about the floor as being a wartime change.
