I am not having much luck with the fit on my patch panels.Especialy the inner to outer cowel piece. Is it that i am missing something or do the patches just fit badly.I am preassembling with selftapping screws.I have studied Chucks website and also modified the inner panel.the outer fits and looks great but the inner to outer is off by 3/4 inch on the inside bottom.Any advice will be greatly appriciated. Never won a spelling bee,Aaron grin

I don't remember all the particulars of how I modified the inner-to-outer (should have got that digital camera sooner), but it did not fit very well at all. I let the pillar & hood hinge area define the outer cowl panel, which fit great, modified the inner to match the pillar/floor/toe/rocker, then after debating whether to just make my own, made the Chevy Duty inner-to-outer fit as best I could. It did require cutting and bending. I still had large gaps and used a lot of seam sealer after the fact. Good thing is that panel never shows and my neoprene wheel well liners keep road salt out of there.

I replaced both sides on my 54. the left side went in with no problems other than having to modify the top to bottom curve with a rubber mallet. Once in place you may have to move the side flanges in or out to get the best fit. It will not be perfect but you can use seam sealer to fill any gaps as I did.

The right side was a challenge in that I had to section the inner-to-outer panel to get it to fit in the available area. This may be because I had installed the lower outer cowl prior to this and it may have been off slightly.

I have some pics of my repairs on my picture trail albums and others I can send you if you need them.

Never think that any patch panel will fit directly into your repair without some tweaking.
