I just had a bout of -25 weather back in January and thought "there's no defrost on my 1960 k10 chevy!" Once it warmed up a bit I proceeded to find that everything that had to do with the heater was SHOT!! The cables, cable control arms, missing knobs, heater blower motor, rotting hoses etc. This turned into quite the project. I replaced EVERYTHING! I now have a functioning heater system in the truck minus a functioning shut-off valve. Which bring me to my question. Somebody, during the 45 years the truck has been around, has attached a heater control valve out of a jeep outside of the housing that holds the heater core. I own the 1960 shop manual to my truck and it shows the heater control cable going into the housing that hold the heater core. Here all clarity ends. Was the heater control valve attached to the heater core somehow? I bought another heater control valve, but how did it hook up to the heater core? Ultimately, my question is how was the original system set up?

The heater TEMP cable hooks to the valve just inside the heater box. Valve goes between core & hoses. Brian

Thanks for the reply 64fleetside, but was the valve held in place by just the hoses? Didn't the valve in some way need to be in a fixed position so that the Heat cable didn't move it around when used? I negelected to say that my heater system is a Deluxe with the 4 levers. Fan, defrost, heat and air.

I'm not sure but I thought the valve was attached w/a very short hose. There could possibly been a clamp to hold it but my book is not clear & my 64 does not use the valve. Brian
