The body is rough,needs another cab and rad. support which we have. It has the famous GMC V6 which neither one of us knows much about. It runs and drives but smokes and probably needs re-built. Are these old V6's worth re-building? How about parts availability? We're only familiar with Chevy's and that's why he wants to pawn it off on me. I wonder how many of these old GMC 4WD's are still around?

I found out yesterday that they have 3 '64-'65 GMC grain trucks that are not being used anymore and all of them have the V6. They also have a '56 Chevy grain truck that is also retired. May be some good parts and possibly a 261 in the old Chevy. I'll check them out today.

Mike | | | | | Joined: May 2004 Posts: 204 Member | | Member Joined: May 2004 Posts: 204 | Just as I thought, the old '57 Chevy 6500 has a nice complete original 261 in it and I verified the casting numbers on the block and head. It's a genuine 261 and it's not stuck either. I checked the oil and it looks excellent and there's still antifreeze in the rad. No cracks on block as well. The owner's brother was there and said they would be glad to get rid of it. I just have to wait until tonight to call him about the price.
