Take a look at what this guy did. This is by far the worst thing I've ever seen. Check out the gauges in the latch panel. What do you guys think? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...tem=4547208256&rd=1#ebayphotohosting

Creative I guess, but I wouldn't buy it. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | It looks like this guy is a frustrated boat builder. That's exactly the kind of dash layout I would expect to see on one of the many boats (and older yachts) I've been aboard.
Nice workmanship, poor taste. The headlights made me sick, the rest of it I thought was OK. I guess it's a creative way to get around a rusted out dashboard.
The gauges in the latch plate were clever. I guess if you spent a lot of time tuning on the engine they might be useful.

But if that's the worst that you've seen, you've led a relatively sheltered STOVEBOLT PAGE existence. If he got rid of some wood and put on more metal it would have looked great. The Elcamino headlights were not in my favor yet the crafstman ship to get that nice must have taken weeks, maybe not?. The interior is not that nice. One of the most important things to me is a sweet dash. These old trucks had them and they should stay in there. The current bid is reasonable. The guy built it for his specific taste and really only 1 person would have his taste and that is the seller. | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | Not my cup of tea, but I'm not getting sick, either. Or PG county truck if you live in Maryland. Are you talking about the gauges on the engine side firewall? That's the best part about the truck. I guess for that time period it was in style , remember goodtimes vans ? | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 | David! :o Careful, buster -- Peggy is a PG County girl... I agree with the Bambino and Norse -- I've seen far, far worse. Personally, I find a lot of what he's done rather creative and interesting. Not sure I like the lights, either, but the latch pan guages are kinda neat. I wouldn't buy it or do a truck like that, but it is different. And I'm an NOS Nazi, too Regards, John

Some stock headlights, frenched in a bit would've looked a lot better, IMHO. Not too crazy for the gauge setup, but whatever works. The boat theme is nice!
If it weren't for the lights, I wouldn't mind having it!

I think it would look great after it had all of the extra wood, chrome, plastic gauges, and other such added stuff removed again - it might start to look like the classy truck it once was! Just think of the $$ you could make on all of those "extra" flashy parts at the swap meet! "We have $510 -- Do I hear $515?

It was only barely uglier when it came out of the factory. It deserved what it got. My truck is an AD and my opinion is that they are unmatched to this day in style both inside and out.The more you screw with the original the worse it becomes. I feel guilty adding a roll pan to my truck. The seller says the gauges under the hood don't work. Why butcher a good chrome latch panel? As Patrick says in his catalog "no butchering or hacking on whats gotta be the world's nicest trucks" I have to agree. I credit the guy with nice craftsmanship but he should have done it to something deserving-Like a furd!
