Why I collect tall Cabovers and vintage travel trailers that require high clearance garage doors I will never know! I had to "farm Out" my '49 GMC, 32 Ft Star Streamline Travel Trailer and '27 Mack AC to tall storage sheds this years! NO MO' ROOM! Now I must finish off insulating the two bay workshop and install a "Red Dawg" garage heater! Then I can have fun and can putter all winter! Is your workshop ever big enough Stovebolters? I m getting a 30X50X12 put up but I can already see it's a little small. Went with 10X10 doors so I wouldn't be tempted by any old OTR trucks | | | | Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 687 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 687 | Nope never big enough! Problay in about 3 yrs I am going to add a 40 X 60 on 1 end very tall door so when I get a motor home I have a place to store. The rest of the building will be forwhatever but whatever is I'm sure I'll need it.

Three garages, and all 5 ADs are still outside. | | | | Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2000 Posts: 582 | Built a 24 x24. Tried to fit my 49 longbed, 1980 VW Vanagon and my new Kubota tractor inside. Don't fit. Now. the VW goes outside under a cover, amd the Kubota and GMC stay inside. After all, priorities rule! | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | I almost have my 30x40 block building complete. Yep, its already to small. I didn't realize how much stuff I had stored as so many locations. I mentioned adding on to the wifey and she said right after I added onto the house! | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 185 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 185 | Nope. There's never enough room and there certainly aint enough time. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | Heck I have the room for a double garage but the municipality won't let me. Certain by-laws referring to square feet of "other" buildings versus lot size. They also have by-laws that say limited street parking and no illegal basement suites. There are more suites than garages! Hey that's an idea! Build a basement garage and call it a suite! | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,470 Bond Villain | Bond Villain Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 5,470 | Amen, Si! Some day, my dream is to have enough covered storage so I never have to move anything to get to whatever it is I need at the moment.
Man I hate that!

I measure my garage in inches and have a hoist to suck my table saw up into the rafters when I'm not using it to save space.
I do have two walnut trees worth of lumber stacked in the corner drying though.

Looking back I think I DESERVE a nice shop! I remember the wet ground, crawling around in the sand and dirt with nothing but "screwdriver and pliers". Everytime I go to the old homeplace I look at the chain still wrapped around the limb of a big white oak tree that we would hook the borrow chainfall into to pull an engine. You would have to almost rub the right front fender against the tree so the chain would be on the limb where it would support the weight and be centered enough. Heck, I once even disasembled an engine in my 56 coupe, jacked the car up and dropped the block out the bottom.....yeah, I understand what you all are saying and YOU DESERVE a good shop. Now go get started on it | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 476 Moderator | Moderator Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 476 | I just poured the cement for phase one of the garage expansion. Next spring more cement is phase two. After that an addition of ten feet in the rear and eight along the left side will move all the storage over into the left side, and allow a workshop to be set up in the rear. It's a real pain having to move the trucks out and pull everything out and set it up just to work. Then put it all away when done. Sometimes I only want to cut one piece. It makes a 5 minute job take an hour.
