This was brought up before, but I couldn't find it again.. just curious about how many bolters have Military service and what branch ect.... and to tie it in with the owners requirements that posts be truck related when did you acquire your favorite/current/ex Bolt?

Before I joined the MARINES: 67 Suburban

During: 66 GMC, 39 Chevy (The Ox), 02 Chevy (Chickbolt) and The (39) Coupe with a truck block.

After: Not applicable. (yet)

AFTER I retired from the Army (about 15 years) I finally got my Bolt. I restored a couple old tractors, a few old lawnmowers, and even a one horse buggy (spent 4 years restoring that one!). Out of them all, I like the Bolt the best! grin OOPS, forgot, got the '56 in 2003.

Good one Norse wink I only drove military trucks in the Army,66-68, Diesel buses and "Dragon Wagons",the huge tractor trailer lowboys that hauled main battle tanks around.Bought my first truck,a beat up 65 Chevy 3/4 ton around 1978 and my first real Stovebolt in 1994.

After 9 years active duty I transferred to the Army Reserve. I saved up my drill pay to finance the purchase and restoration of my '46 1/2-ton. My wife helps me spend my "regular" paycheck, but even she says the Reserve check is MINE!!! I especially enjoy driving it to the armory on drill weekends.

Got my first stovebolt when I was 14--51 GMC 3/4ton--bought out of a junkyard--cracked head and wrecked--got another head and put a flatbed on it and ran a haycrew--only way a poor boy could get the money to go to college back then.

Never served in the military--college deferred out of Vietnam--in fact; no member of my family has been in the military since the Civil War. That poor ancestor was hung by the Federals as a confederate spy--kinda soured my kin on military service.

My Wife and I bought a '52 3/4 ton on our honeymoon in 1988! But, because we were overseas we lost the place to store it!....had to get rid of it, I just retired after 23 years of service, 3 years U.S. Army reserve and 20 years in the U.S. Navy..just bought a 1945 1 1/2 ton Chevrolet, this time we won't have to get rid of ! Just celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary, and yes My wife DOES support and share in motorcycling, street rods and fishing!! She's a real keeper!

Rusty,

Got my first Stovebolt (and the motivator to create this web site) -- a '39 1/2-ton Chevy -- while we were stationed at Ft. Ben Harrison (Indianapolis, IN) where I taught Journalism and was the CO of the Marine Detachment (first part was more fun). My boss, a USAF Major, had the truck and it was too much of a project for him so he offered it to me. We did a complete frame off in the garage in 2 years... and was mostly finished when we got the orders to Hawaii.

Did a bunch of VWs in Hawaii while we were putting this web site together and getting it off the ground. We've since sold the '39 to a then-active duty Army MSgt at Carlisle Barracks. Truck is still in the Gallery. Kevin next needs to sell the truck to a Squid so that thing can be a complete Purple suit truck.

My post Marine Corps career has seen the two '49's (3800 and 4400).

John

I bought my 55 1st series shortly after I got married and about three years into my time in the Army (I am still on Active Duty). Had to store it while we were in Germany but attacked it once we returned. Did a frame off in the garage in Montana (only a couple months of good working weather up there right Wally!) in a little less than three years. Had to put it into storage once again now that we are in Florida. Good thing too with all this weather going on. I blame, er I mean credit John with getting me hooked. His website from Hawaii got me started.

U.S. Army Special Forces- retired 05 with 22yrs service. Bought my 54 Advance Design just as first Gulf war was shaping up. Had her just ready to paint when I shipped out- just barely had time to pull the masking tape off. Back 1 year later. It was worth it though- the Gulf war was the most significant event in my life- wouldn't have missed it for anything.

I got mine before any military service, and at age 54, I suppose that's my final answer.I don't know when I'll finish my truck ,but I think it will be before I join a military group of any type.

Bought my 46 ½ ton before my military service in 1969. My wife drove it while I was away in Viet Nam, 70/71. Still have it and am always doing something to it. Right now I’m upgrading to a 283 and TH350.

Had them before, during, and after! Chevys, GMC's, D_odges, F_ords, two Internationals, a Jeep pickup, a few foreigners, for a total of 77 trucks (and 446 cars!) since 1975, when I bought my first truck (a '57 GMC 1/2 ton) running/driving for $35.00. I have three now; my two Mopars and my son's '46 Chevy.

Not sure what military service has to do with the question, but WTH, over!

What if your truck was in the service and the owner wasn't?

My 1937 Chevy service truck was in the Swiss military until this past May when we bought it at auction and shipped it over.
