Found this on Ebay. Since this bed was made for less than two years it is always good to find one at a good price. Hope someone can give this a good home. I want the hood that is in it!

Just what I need! Looks like the fenders are in it too. Unfortunately, Iowa is far away from here and the shipping would be a killer.

I pinged the guy with an Email. He's going to sell the fenders separate. Probably knows that nobody will bid much on the bed because it is too big to ship cheap. The fenders though, I'll bet he hopes to make on them what he can't on the bed. I'm only about 100 miles from him. I may snag the bed if it's cheap. It would look good as a trailer made with the front axle I'm removing. Some fenders will turn up sooner or later.

Hmmm... Maybe I better ask him about the tailgate. The ad doesn't mention it. Bet that won't be included either...

Anybody know if it's for a 3/4 or a 1/2? I emailed him but haven't gotten anything back yet.

If it's for a 3/4 I really could use the box!!!!!!

If your truck has a short box it will be the same but doesn't the 3/4 ton have the 8 foot box?

Mine has the 8 ft. box. As I looked at the picture again and the placement of the fender marks over the wheels, it looks like it might be a short box. Dang!!!!!!!!!!

I could use the front bed panel for sure, though, if I can get the whole works at a good price.

The box in the auction is for a short bed, 3100, 1/2 ton, SWB or whatever designation may apply.

Kip, the side stampings were different to accomodate the different fenders. The first version of the bed was only made for a year and a half - '54 and '55.1. Finding a GMC tailgate for one is a real nightmare.

Is the hood the same for a 54? I've got 3 extras I want to get rid of. As we can't sell anything here, there is at least one I would give you. Shipping must be ugly from here to there though...

I may be able to help move that hood at least part way. The stepson lives NW of the twin cities and says he has found a deal on a 327/TH350 for me. He's working on nailing it down now. I may be coming up that way with the trailer in the next couple weeks. I figured if I got a bid in on that box, I might try to do it all in one trip. The guy with the box has answered a couple Emails for me (see above) but he has not told me yet if the tailgate is included or how the wood is. I also asked him what he wants for the fenders. If I have to pay a lot, it makes the box less attractive.

Moosetrot, If you buy that box, maybe I can meet you in the cities with it if the deal on the 327 works out. The only reason I would bid on the box is if it is cheap, since I only live 100 miles or so from there. I thought it would make a nice trailer with the axle I'm taking out of the '47 panel, but if a guy needed it for his truck, I wouldn't get in the way of that.

This is great! Yes I am the one needing the trailer tires/wheel from Missouri. The hoods from all ADs are the same as long as you are talking 1/2 to 3/4 ton. The only difference I can determine is the side emblem and hood emblem mounting holes which I will be filling in anyway. The key is finding a hood that is straight and that does not have rot in the hinge mounts.

I need to check with two contacts I made at a local swap meet to see if they have a local hood that fits the need.

Thanks for the assistance. If it turns out the northern express for an imported hood is needed I will be able to meet it part of the way.

If you look closely at the picture in the bed auction you will not it is on the frame backwards and you are looking at the tailgate not the front panel. I would hope he is including it.

Hasn't answered me yet on the tailgate. I should pop into work tomorrow and see if he sent me something there. That's where I sent the Email from, but I told him to send any response to my home address, since it was Friday.

Slomoe, if we are going to help Houston out, your offer may be needed. I was thinking about asking my dad to haul the hood on down there and pick up the wheels in Sikeston on the way. He's about to do the snowbird thing again for the winter. He goes through S.E. Mo because that's where he's from. Problem is, dad was just over here today and had a Geo Metro mounted on the back of his ton dually flatbed. He may be able to slide the tires on there somewhere, but I can't imagine where the hood would fit. I doubt he would volunteer to slide it in the door of the camper (trailer) because he would not be physically able to move it himself. He would be blocked out of the camper until Houston wrestles it outa there.

NOTE! I won't be going to Minnesota if the stepson does not come through on the 327/TH350!

Unless one of you bolters can help me chase down a good excuse to come up with the trailer. (I'm going to stop with that statement because I don't want to step over the "no advertising" line here. Not sure exactly where the line is... :confused: )

Just checked on it. It's over $100 now. I won't be bidding, since I don't need it. I was only going to pick it up if it was going too cheap.

I see he's relisted it. I never did figure out why he pulled it before. He's not very responsive to emails, and when he does respond he doesn't say much.

He is in his last day and right now the bid is only $1.00. Last time it was over $100.00 before he pulled it.

I wondered why he pulled it before, now I'm really wondering what is up with this guy. He did finally get back to me and let me know that the tailgate is included. That was before he ended the auction. Maybe he decided to keep that tailgate for that price.

I noticed he now says it is a 3/4 ton box. Before he said it was a half ton. Probably best to let this one go.

Once again, the auction will probably close before this guy gets back to me. I still wonder if the tailgate is included.

I notice this time he has a reserve price. That must be why he ended it last time. Apparently $100.00 didn't trip his trigger. It's bad enough that he's parting out a truck that may have been restorable. Some guys should just not be allowed to have vintage iron.
