Hi...i have a 87 3/4 ton chevy van with stock 350 fuel injected...air just like a van conversion. The problem is that i recently change the radiator as the old one was leaking.

However since the change the idle on a cold start...races or runs too high in rpms.

Nothing was done except to change the old radiator and even with the slow leak i had no idle problems.

Have to smog the truck this month...so any suggestions as to what is causing the idle to run so fast is appreciated. Note that after the engine is warmed up the idle slows down to normal operating speed.

The radiator is a heavy duty three core or row one that i got from Napa auto store.

Thanks Starrider

Is it the same size as the original radiator?
Did you change the thermostat?

Mechainiac...I think it is the same size but it may have a high cooling rating and no i did not changed the thermostate...as a cold engine is a cold engine and the fast idle should idle should idle at the same speed as before...?

Thanks for your response

Hi Sounds like there is a sensor that came unpluged or the temperature sensor for the ECM has gone out of specs. Check the air induction system to see if the sensor there is unhooked. Also, does the check eng light come on? Hope this helps.....Chb46

Make sure all air is burped out...... air at the CTS will cause a fast idle. Also, any hoses knocked loose?????? VAcuum leaks cause high idles too.
