| | | | Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 108 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Aug 2003 Posts: 108 | I know the wise old sages here well say "Duh!" to this, but I'm proud of myself so must boast. After sitting for 10 months, the front wheels on my '53 3600 would barely steer- it was "armstrong" before but now it was ridiculous. I realized the problem- the kinpin bushings were dried up. I tried to grease them and wound up breaking a grease gun and getting grease all over the place. I took the zerks off, cleaned out the holes with an awl, and sprayed WMD 40 liberally, still to no avail. Then I busted out the Oxy Acetylene torch and burned out the old, hard grease- what pretty flame colors it made! For good measure I sprayed lots more WMD and lighted it. When I put the zerks back in, and with some effort and a heavier duty grease gun, I got them greased.
Just a tip- heat can be very useful.

Glad to know the firework show worked though, I probably have one too.

No way could I get grease through mine with the wheels on the ground. Piece of cake once the front end was raised.
