Oh yea, drive your pre-1973 truck to the movies and watch Friday Night Lights. It is almost accurate. I grew up in that area and remember the 1988 season.

Hoever, I just re-read John's post after making the change. He said: Otherwise, let's keep this old truck-related. I, too, enjoyed the music posts and the garage-eating Godzilla figurines and even Kip's umty-million post thread about nothing, but as Hereclitus said, you never step in the same stream twice -- change is the only universal constant. And my collolary -- you can't throw a rock in a sewage puddle without splashing anybody. You can look at it as a few bad actors spoiled it for everyone or you can look at it as an opportunity for growth. OR, you can look at is as I do -- a very disappointing lesson in human nature. [snip]
If it isn't strictly related to pre-73 GM trucks, then it isn't welcome on the Stovebolt Page. If you forget that, or have doubts, and get mad that something of yours gets deleted without explanation, blame me and only me. My moderators work for me. OK, so what are the "new" guidelines for General? What is allowed and what isn't? High school football appears to be ok. What about pro football? What about jokes? What about my favorite rock and roll song? Or is it just a case of making a post and seeing if it will fly with the moderator? Inquiring minds want to know.

Keep it truck related, but some like sports and a little small talk on the side, absolutly no politics at all,not even a hint. Don't worry, if I don't like it,it's gone. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 454 | Is "a little off topic" like being a little bit pregnant? :p I hate to say it, but you're dodging the issue (boy what a perfect place to insert a political reference if such things were allowed ). Seriously, I really would like to know what we can and cannot post here in General. I thought the rules were clearly outlined at the top of the forums "Please note that this forum is only for the discussion of topics directly related to the care, restoration and use of antique GM trucks" and in John's posting (see above), "If it isn't strictly related to pre-73 GM trucks, then it isn't welcome on the Stovebolt Page". If the rules have changed, I think its only fair if you clearly state that and then tell us what the new rules are. You appear to be saying that anything off topic is now ok as long as it is not about politics and that you like it. Is that right?

Of course our football is Canadian rules: -Field is 110 yards long and 65 yards wide -Endzones are 20 yards deep -3 downs to advance 10 yards -Offence has 20 seconds from referee's signal to -start play -12 players on the field during a play -All players in backfield except QB are allowed unlimited motion prior to snap of the ball -Punt and kick receivers are given a five-yard zone of protection until ball is caught. No "fair catch" rule -Single point awarded for preventing a recovered punt or missed field goal from advancing out of the end zone -Mssed field goals can be returned to kicker's end zone for 3 points A bit of a difference from the NFL..and the ball is different too! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 22 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 22 | i'm sure that if you want to talk football you can find a football sight to unload on , but i would not go over there and ask one of those armchair sportsguys if he could tell you how to set the gap on your sparkplugs...
see where i'm going with this...

I grew up an Army brat, but went to high school in Iowa Park Texas a for couple of years. We had the number one state football team then in 4A class....Look it up. That was 1970-1971. I was too small to play they told me.
When I came back to Iowa Park I went to work at the White's Auto Store in town. I had a Boss 429 Mustang that I bought from Shaw Motors.(now defunct) I was 18 years old.
I paid cash for that car. It was Grabber Blue with white interior.
I dated Patty Brown in it. She was married, I wasn't. Her husband, Mike, caught us one night behind the grain silos near Buffalo Lake. I whipped him real bad but hated it when it happened cause I felt sorry for him. She was no good.
I met her when when I attended 10th grade at Iowa Park high. Then Dad transferred to Germany where we stayed and I graduated HS. We returned to Iowa Park when I was 18. I had several thousand I had earned and saved while in Germany. So I bought the Stang, went to work, and got reaquanted with Patty one night in that small town parking lot.
All us kids were drinking Coors beer and listening to the radio between burnouts when she pulled up next to my driver's door. I had dreamed about her for two years while I was gone overseas. She was the hottest thang in school and looked even better then. I didn't care if she was married or not. Her husband Mike was just a kid too. He was working two jobs to support her. That gave her time to run around....I didn't care.
Mike, here's to you and all I know you must have gone thru for her. I'm sorry for what I did. And here's to small town Texas football. If you here ain't ever been there, then you wouldn't understand.
If you ever saw the movie "The last Picture Show", they you saw my old stomping grounds.
They filmed me doing a burnout, but edited it out of the movie.....just my luck.
I miss Texas High School football.
Those really were the good old days.

Small talk is ok,like sports, but keep it confined to one or two threads.General posts about any vehicles or bikes are ok with me,again don't clutter the board with this stuff. Otherwords, if you're a guy who talks mostly old trucks and throws in some off topic now and then,no problem. If you're a guy who only posts off topic,I may choose to object to the content . The following list, and this is not all by any means , is off limits, politics, religion, taxes, guns or gun legislation, what you ate for dinner, the latest episode of "Survivor",my dog has died, my cat has died, my dog had puppies,my kid's teacher gave him a failing grade, I had an affair with the teacher so he would give my kid a passing grade, the teacher failed him anyways cause I was bad in bed, your food shopping list, why is the sky blue, fat people take up too much space, the deer I shot, blah blah blah. I don't read every post ,so one time something may slide by, the next time it gets my attention. So to sum it up,the "correctness" of a post from my point of view is subjective at best. You'll notice there's the "Hey Joker" thread for nonesense, need to tell a joke? post it there.Notice the post above by Yodaddy? Not bad, general nostalagic talk, got a car thrown in for good measure, ok for a once in a while post, not every day. Best advice I can give is, stick to truck topics ,ok? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 384 | Works for me--ya know over the years Ive posted on threads that have been locked down or been deleted--probably deserved it in some instances ...others I thought were close calls. Never got upset over it tho--truth of the matter is that nothing I post here is gonna change the course of human events....anybody else either. Prolly best to let the moderators run these forums and not worry about rigid rules... Moderators are just volunteers tryin to keep things on an even keel. Good idea to eliminate politics and religion etc...just lead to arguments...never change anybody's mind either. Seems to me the key thing is to maintain civility... if somebody has to argue and call names ...boot their posts. Who cares. Ah Texas football--wish it was like the 60s again--all about money and high dollar coachin now but I guess the kids still occasionally have some fun.

I haven't gone there for many years.
When you are working on old trucks and cars, you kinda slip back there. Especially if you are like me and remember how it was then when those trucks were new....And we were young.
Maybe that's why when I touch old iron, I feel at home again. Maybe that's why I bother with it. I could buy a new Dodge Hemi right now. But where in the past could I go with that? I would rather waste my time bending a dented old car or truck back into what it was...and maybe bend me back like I was then too.
Gimme a break. I was better then. Let me restore myself.

Finally my chance comes, I was tight end, forget what they called the position back then. The starter end hurt his leg on the last play. The coach called me to replace him , the coach's look said don't screw up.I was nervous, into the huddle, the quarterback planned to have me go out 10 steps, fake right, go left 5 steps, catch the ball, fall down. The ball is snapped,I cross the line, count 10 steps, shift right, then back left, stop turn, holy crap!I got the darn ball!!! I see a hole near the side line, make another 5 yards before going down. Then it's over, I'm blindside tackled by a defensive end,I go upside down, the world fades to silver with bright spots. The coach is yelling in my face, I'm laying on the bench.I'm still alive, that means I didn't lose the ball cause the team woulda killed me. I never played again, that hurt,I never saw it coming. At least in a one on one fist fight you can keep your attention focused on one guy | | | | | Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 43 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Sep 2004 Posts: 43 | Cybil was my dream gal.....
