Hi All, here are some photos of an old Chevy truck that belongs fo my neighbor. Can any of you identify the year and engine? Check out the old semaphor on the drivers side! Have fun!

Photos edited- deleted from my server for space.

I would venture the guess of a 216 motor and late 30' early 40's truck.

If my memory serves, the two "bands" around the cab below the windows were pre-1940, maybe 1936 or 37.

The cab and fneders look like they are salvageable. Don't know about the engine, but there may be some clues about that engine being a lot earlier than you might think. Maybe just the photos, but the push rod cover, mechanical linkage for the starter and such don't look like stuff outta the 40's.

57 Jimmy, I'm with Brian Moore... I think the motor is an early 216 and the truck is probably late 30's. My guess is 36 or 37. Do you happen to know the answers?

Jed , I do not know the answers, thats why I am asking here on Stovebolt. There is a chance I could salvage this truck, I'll let you know.

The cab could be a low roof 36 or a 37 /38,the motor looks to be a 206 or what ever the size was before the 216

I thought that might be a 207 because of the look of the side cover. There was a wider gap between 3 and 4 plugs on those motors, also. Would that be correct for 37?

If it's a 38 the Id tag would be under hood area on pass side the two trim bands, door handle and round dash gauge match with my 38

Thanks for all the guesses! My feeling on this old hulk, fellow Stovebolters, is that I should at least drag it to my place and pick some of the parts off and make them available at a swap meet or on Ebay. Otherwise, it will continue to rot into the ground. My neighbor has been saying he's going to clean the place up, meaning get rid of these old rotting hulks, but clearly thats not happening. If he does get to it, this one will end up in the local scrap yard, and will be melted down in its entirety.
I looked at the data plate, it is on the passenger side of the firewall. All I could read was "Chevrolet"', I will take another look.
