OK all you guys that have switched to a T5 trans, what did you do for a shifter boot? I can come up with the boot it's self but what I need info on is how did you hold it to the floor.

Just so you know I have carpet in my truck with a fairly thick pad for noise reduction. I will need to lift the carpet to check the levels in the MC and the battery so screwing the boot to the floor through the carpet won't work.

Any suggestions?

i bought a jeep shift boot ring, pretty simple ring.
ANY ring will do as you will hide the thing anyway.
mocked up a paper shaped cone the height i wanted.
I made a hyde-o-nyga shaped (my color choice) cone @ the upholstery shop.
added about 2'' more for the material to go round/under the ring. he sowed it in about 10 minutes. I turned the stitching inside. i used some foam insulation to keep the noise down.

bolted the newly made boot & attached ring to the carpet after slipping the top part of the cone over the shift rod.
i used a couple fender washers under the carpet.
we're good :p

Thanks for the ideas Jim. The way I read your post your boot is bolted to the carpet and not the floor. Is that right? Do you have a picture?

yes that is correct.
all you have to do when you have to look/remove something under the carpet is unscrew your shift knob and slid the carpet up over the shift rod,
or
clean up a coffee spill, remove the carpet to access the tranny floor plate it's NOT a big deal
otherwise
you have to unbolt the ring which is bolted to the metal floor to move/see anything at the floor, like (if needed) filling/checking the brake reservoir
my carpet goes up to the seat verticle sheet metal and only high enough to slid under the fiberglas firewall protector (which has double insulation for sound deadening)

HI....Check with Alan Horvarth on this site he makes custom boots out of Elk and cow hide and his work is perfect. He has made a couple of leather items for us including a shift boot from elk and it don't get no better than that! We sent him a paper mock up and off he went and we are always getting compliments on that shift boot! T/C Steve
