I heard it run, but owner had to pour gas in carb to start..He said carb was bad..It has a Zenith carb on the 261 Chevy engine. I was wondering where and how much a rebuild kit would run me..

I have a 235 from my 54 and I have the trans from it also since I'm doing some modifactions on the 54, I heard that all this would fit nicely in the 46, but I needed a carb on 46 to drive it down road..for the price he is asking I wanted to drive it first..

One could have been transplanted from a GMC, though. The 261 uses the same bolt pattern as a 235 but bigger jets in the carb. Are you sure this guy isn't pulling your leg? You mentioned in another post that this was a babbit motor. All 261's were full pressure insert bearing engines. If it is post- '57 it will have a full flow oil filter with 1/2" NPT lines.
