I'm considering replacing the original bench seat in my 49 with something a bit more modern (and comfortable). I've seen a set of GMC seats on e-bay (came from an 04 model as I remember - the auction has ended) that have the seat belts (an upgrade that is a must as far as I'm concerned) as part of the seat. I'd rather have a 60/40 split seat than a set of buckets if I'm going to do this. If I do make this change, I'll probably hang on to the original seat.

My questions are: what should I be looking for if I'm going to do this? What are the pit falls of doing this (outside of the non-original stuff) and what will/might fit?

Any thoughts, positive or negative, are appreciated. I'm still tearing it down so it'll be a while before I have to worry about this particular problem.

rocky - look for seats that bolt flat to the floor pan. some seats are tilted and will cause you extra work in figureing out how to mount them. width is important obviously (side to side). newer buick seats seem to be popular as are the gm pick up seats that have the belts built in. if the tank is still in there it will limit the width of the seat (front to back) etc and how far you can adjust it back/forward. should be some good info if you use the search option. i put buckets in mine. i made a 4 in. high "platform" to sit them on so i could sit up a little higher in the cab. good luck.
