Has anyone heard of factory Yellow paint? I just got a project, and it is originally Yellow, under a few coats of other paints. Don't know if it was a highway dept truck, school truck or what.Checked the paint chips, online, and it is more yellow than the Creme Medium. If I call GM for a restoration pack, do they know the original color? Many thanks!!

The colors on the paint charts to which I linked you in your earlier post don't look quite right on the computer screen. The Armour Yellow, which looks orange on the chart, is really closer to a school bus or highway dept. yellow. In fact, Armour Yellow was modified in '52 to become Yukon Yellow, which complied with the National School Bus Standard for Chrome Yellow. The Cream Medium is really less yellow than it appears on those charts, and is closer to a cream, as its name suggests.

Thanks for the info, yes hard to tell the colors on the screen, will look for a color chart at a swap meet later this month, though paint is many months down the road. I prefer the Cream color, what color would the wheels be painted? Red, maroon, black? Again, many thanks!

What year truck are you talking about?

1950 1/2 ton (Chevy) looking underneath the old paint areas, it was original yellow paint.

According to PPGcarpaint.com , the PPG code for Armour Yellow is 80089, and the Yukon Yellow is 80028

The original standard wheel color would have been black. If the truck had the Deluxe Cab option, I believe the wheels were body color (for those trucks/wheels that used hubcaps, which applies to the 1/2-ton). The body color wheels were striped with the same color as the body stripe. There have been posts in the past about wheel color and striping. The hubcaps would have been chrome.

Now, what features where on the Deluxe cab? What do I look for? Thanks for your reply once again.

Deluxe equipment was rear corner windows, bright metal (stainless) windshield and door window reveals, door window garnish molding, seat back trim panel, arm rest on driver's side, and right hand sun shade, and chrome radiator grille.

Striping color with Armour yellow was black.

And when you call for a restoration pack (and do so, it is filled with good information), GM will have no information on your specific truck. But they sometimes ask for a serial number, sometimes not. I do not know why they would need it.

The seat back trim panel only came with the Nu-view corner windows. GMC Deluxes were avilable without the windows, just to confuse matters.

But he has a Chevy.

Yeah, I just like throwing that weird tidbit about the Deluxe package out now and then.

It's definately possible that someone could have ordered the Deluxe package and had the windows deleted, or just ordered all the other parts on a Standard cab.

Where on the PPG site can you lok at the color?
When going through the steps, it ends at the pricing and description of the paint w/out a color representation.

Unfortunately, that PPG site doesn't have color charts or chips online. However, you can see PPG charts at AutoColorLibrary.
