Anyone successfully duplicated, or restored the factory two-tone green interior for a 54/55.1 chevy pickup? I was digging through parts tonight after having them squirreled away for a few years and happened upon an NOS light green turnsignal assembly that I had completely forgotten I had. Makes me wonder if I should go ahead and try to do this. A few things concern me. If I'm not mistaken, the original interior package would have included a green rubber floormat, as well as a funky patterned seat cover. Now, I know that about 8 years ago or so when I was exceedingly poor, Jim carter was selling either reproduction material, or seatcovers specifically for this application. Any pictures of a successful restoration, or duplication of one of these interiors would be great. Were the knobs color coordinated as well? I know I've never seen a 4 speed knob that was anything but black.

Gp to engines and drivelines and look at a fairly new topic on factory orininal HydraMatic sor something like that. He has a webshots gallery of an original 2 tone blue interior. I don't think there was a different floormat. I am posting a link to my 2 tone blue interior also. http://community.webshots.com/user/greg_h

Greg_H,

I just got these part numbers from W.D. Foster.

Here are the part numbers of the colored floormats
for 54/55.1 deluxe interiors:

1. Blue except 4-speed #3712345, 4-speed #3712339

2. Green except 4-speed #3712343, 4-speed #3712337

3. Brown except 4-speed #3712347, 4-speed #3712341

So, it looks like we have ourselves doing a completely authentic resto, unless we wanna spring for having them repro'd ourselves. I'm going to call Jim Carter and see what he's got. I seem to remember that he had them at one point, again, when I was destitute.

Wow! It has been many years since I pulled the many layers of floormats out of mine and sprayed floorboards with rust converter. For the life of me, I don't know what drove me to do that but 25 years later, I sure am glad I did. But I don't remember any blue in the floormats. But then again, If you buy the blue cab windlace, you have to take it on blind faith that it is blue. It actually comes closer to a grey color. I was thinking about blue carpet with a heel pad when interior comes together. I have already taken "creative liberties" with vintage wheels and some vintage engine dress up items. But if you find someone to reproduce the mats in colors, let me know. I guess it is something I would like to collect to keep in the box for the future.

Greg & Josh,

I do not know if this is information pertinent to your discussion: the 1954 Truck Restoration Packet "Chevrolet 21954 Specifications" lists as an accessory: rectangular floor mats, choice of 5 colors. This was a GM dealer accessory that was available for all model 1954 trucks (this publication is dated 5-1-54).

It looks like these mats were not in the Deluxe Cab Equipment package (RPO 430/431); but, they were available as a GM accessory.

I remember reading about the accessory floormats. I have never actually seen one. At least I don't believe I have. Greg, how far along are you on your restoration? Have you purchased the two-tone components from Carter?

The plan is paint next year. This year, I concentrated on mechanical issues. My truck is originally 2 tone interior and it is as it left the assy. line right now as far as interior paint goes. I have the Blue windlace already purchased. I need to get the headliner still. Mine has been attacked by mice in a 10 year storage. Again, I will take creative liberties when I redo it. My plan is to go back with Unison seats in a stock appearing material and probably same material in a simple covered door panels. I want it to appear that it would lean more towards stock and not look like an obvious custom. Just my taste. Here is truck pretty much as it is now. http://community.webshots.com/user/greg_h

Greg, did you get a complete set of unisons, or did your truck have unions in it? Doesn't the unison setup require a special seatriser? I've always thought it'd be neat to have a set of them in my truck. Hard to locate though. Spanky was saying they almost always were in COE's and other big trucks.

Got a complete set with special Thanks to another bolter on this page that also aquired a set or actually 2. He has bolted them int his truck and the keep the same seat riser as you called it. I am trying to fit that project in at the same time as paint and interior. Going to be a pretty good stretch but I think it can be done. Do a search on the Unisons and there is some pretty good info on this page.

Was thinking of doing the two-tone green interior finish myself, Josh.

There was a truck for sale a few months ago that had the two-tone green interior. It's the only one I've ever seen so I don't know how accurate it is. Saved a couple of pics -

Door

Interior from driver\'s side

That looks pretty much like my Blue. I would believe it to be correct. A few years back, there was a guy on this site that was from around KC that was doing a 2 tone green. Seems like user name was Grumpy or something like that. I guess you could do a search for my username and find him as I responded with info on my truck when he was gathering info. What I don't understand is that if you remove the door lower access panels, The door is black behind them. I think there are pics on my webshots. They also did a nicer job of the dash lettering than what the factory did.

Yeah, that's really nice. I've got to see if I can find the pictures of a truck that was sold in Oregon a few months back. It's basically a twin of my truck, except it did have the factory green interior. Now, the one thing that doesn't seem right, if the schemes were the same in terms of light and dark placement. Greg, correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like the lighter blue is applied to your steering column, turnsignal cup, and steering wheel. Is that right? The NOS green signal cup that I have is in the light green.

Mine has the column light but the cup and steering wheel are the darker color. The steering wheel almost has a purple cast to it. I know for a fact that my steering cup is darker color but as I sit at work, I am questioning the steering wheel color. I am almost positive that it is darker than the lighter of the 2 colors though. I will try and remember to look at it during lunch.

The steering cup is definitely the darker blue. I actually had removed the original in favor of factory turn signals so I grabbed the original and cleaned dust in the covered area, a coat of wax for good measure and then out to compare with dash top. It appears slightly darker whicj I blame on 50 years of the dash top fading a shade. Again, the steering wheel is more difficult as it has a purple tint to it. Same fading story in a different material but I have to assume that it was surely originally the same color as the cup behind it. Also, the horn button center is a blue shade instead of black. It would be a darker color also but hard to tell if originally matched the steering wheel color.

Interesting. It's hard to tell from the webshots pictures. I'm surprised that the steering column is a different shade than the wheel and turnsignal cup. I wonder if the green and blue schemes were different? I'll ask Warren if he has painting instructions anywhere. Thanks Greg!
