Bought a kit for the door windows on my 54. The kit included the stiff window channel for the vent window post (division bar), flexible window channel for the rear and top of the window and inner and outer beltline seals. It also included clips and screws. The clips are supposed to hold the window channel in place, but I can't see how they work. I read some other posts on this topic - nobody mentions the clips - maybe I should ignore them?

Do they fit into the interior reveal moulding frames?

Don't seem to belong to the interior frames - the only thing that seems to be attached there is the inner seal (that was held on by staples).

I guess I will just throw them in the "extra parts" box...

Just put a kit in both doors,along with new tinted glass in my 54..Didn't get screws, or clips with mine, and had no problems, except for putting in the vent window assemblys..Good Luck, Steve

Forget those clips ... you mean those things that look like staples, right?

I went to Home Depot and bought some #4 3/8-inch sheet-metal screws (3/16-inch would've been better, but the smallest they had was 3/8). Using the pre-existing holes that were already in the felt strips (and one I drilled myself, at the end of the curved tip), I laid the felt strip in place on the window moulding and drilled holes into the moulding using a 3/32-inch drill bit. When I screwed all down tight, the screw heads got buried in the felt - you can't even tell they're there! Lastly, I cut the ends of the screws off with my dremel -- they looked like they were sticking through the other side too far. Another reason I used screws instead of the staples is, I plan on covering my inside window mouldings with vinyl and will have to remove (and replace) these felt strips when I do that project -- staples would've been a pain in the neck, eh?

Whoever made up the kit probably goofed; maybe they are for another model year or for some other purpose altogether. Especially since Steve didn't get any clips in his kit...

I will use screws as you suggest - stainless if I can get them.

Did you get your kit from Steele Rubber? I just removed the stock channel on my 55/1st and it had these tabs on it, they help hold the channel into the frame. The Chevy Duty replacement one's I got didn't have them. The Steele site shows them as a seperate item you can order and attach yourself.

atomarc is correct in all regards. Howver, my Chevy Duty window channels (5-6 years ago) came with the clips in place (3 on each side, I recall). Steele's and Jim Carter's did not. I had to pop-rivet them onto the channels I got from Jim Carter, because I could not get the attachment "tang" to hold (will use Chevy Duty's from now on).

The clips keep the channel pushed towards the outside edge of the door. I cannot recall if I screwed the channels into the door frame. As I dimly recall, they either float or are held in place by a sheet-metal screw at the top and a larger sheet-metal screw from the outside edge of the door into the lower end of the channel (where a spring nut is attached). I might not remember this correctly and will see if I can find photos this evening.

I think you could get by without the clips but I would try to get them in.
