Might anyone have a source for obtaining 1/8" jute backing for application to the back side of headliner material used on a 1959 Chev Apache?
Will also post this on the Interiors board.
Thanks in advance, Bruce

Are you looking to restore to as original as possible or just want it to be more quiet in the cab?

Going the original route, as much as possible. The accoustics in these cabs is terrible at best I know but this is a bare bones truck with no sound system.

Manfighter, you did not mention what year truck but I'll bet SMS in Portland OR can supply you with original repro fabrics. They supplied the nylon and vinyl for the 59 and was happy with the quality although maybe a little pricey.

Manfighter, I had orinally bought one of the Vintage cover kits and carpeting from Brothers.... figured I'd do it myself. But I ended up rethinking it all. I went to a car upol. and paid just a little more than it cost me for the kits to have him do it totally. He did use the carpet kit I had bought as it's the very same one he'd have bought from the same supplier... and I paid less for it then he could have gotten it for. And what worked real well was I brought just the seat over to him first, then when the truck was finally up and running I brought it over for the carpet install (one day deal)

I guess my point here is you may want to check around first to have it done custom vs. doing t yourself. My 2c

I'll detour this question for a minute. . .
My suggestion to quite the cab:
. Buy a roll (cause it's cheaper, about $50.) of Dynamat. This stuff ain't cheap to begin with but it works wonders. You can cut w/ sissors and peel off the backing and stick it to the cleaned metal roof, door, or back panel of your truck. This product helps deaden the rattle can and road noise, allowing you to better hear yourselves, prevents hearing problems and makes listening to (if you have) music a treat. You don't need to cover the entire metal panel, just the centre section. You could also cover with a jute material, which is flimsy @ best and NOT very dense, or the better two 'foil' sided heavy duty jute to help deaden the sound. This stuff can also be cut with sissors and get placed on the floor to deaden the road noise. I would suggest that after you cut this two sided foil jute material that you ''bind'' the edges w/ furnice tape, a sticky backed silver tape available at home depot type hardware stores. All the above can also be glued into place, after dry-fitting using a good grade of 3M spray glue.
I hope this helps

any good fabric whole-sale, or do it yourself store for jute material.
