I guess my 49 takes the two piece headliner because in the middle of the cab there is a row of holes I guess to screw in the center retainer?? The other question is what holds the headliner in the front and rear of the cab.. thank in advance...........

In my 55.1 I have a floating bar. Not sure if your bar is a floater or not. However in my truck the rear piece is held in place a a metal strip that screws in. On the front near the windshield the headliner is held in place by the window gasket and along the doors by the weather stripping.

Just went through this myself. Assuming you have a standard 49 pickup, there was a change to the headliner during the year. Up to mid year, the headliner used a screw in channel in the center. Sound like that's what you have. The front is held in place by the trim around the windshield. The rear uses another screw in channel much like the one in the middle. Late 49's changed to a floating style center support. I have a late 49 but found out the hard way that my cab had the earlier style headliner. I ended up buying two headliners before I got it worked out.
