My 55.1 Chevy 3100 series truck has a problem with the passenger side window regulator. I can push the window down with the window handle spinning..actually, I can push the window down or pull the window up. Any ideas? Thanks..

does the window handle move the window at all? or is the pushing up/down independent? These things are just pressed metal so they aren't all that great. I had one that did the same thing and the teeth were stripped out so I got aftermarket ones - fairly cheap and easy to replace.

The window crank will roll the window up or down. Just doesn't lock it in place.

need to replace/repair window regulator on my 54. are those things bolted or welded in there and how in the heck do you get in there to work on it?? any tips appreciated.

I'm pretty sure they're bolted in ... but it doesn't look like a real easy task from what I remember -- I put new vent windows in earlier this year and was planning on putting new springs in the window regulators at the same time ... but I decided to skip it -- it must've looked like a real pain in the butt or I would've done it.

My passenger-side window was drifting down about a half-inch ... I'd crank it up, then after about an hour of driving, it would come down, so I was gonna put new springs in the regulator. Then, like I said, I decided to skip it, and after putting the new vent windows in, both windows are nice and tight and the passenger-side stopped coming down.

These window regulators are bolted in...4 if I remember right. But to get the regulator out the vent assembly and window has to come out. Be careful when removing the windows, they do break easily [personal experience].

thanks for the info. the section that the glass fits in is not even attached to anything. i did have a good window but i let it lay loose in there too long as did the previous owner - now it is cracked. does anyone know how the piece that the glass goes in attaches to the regulator. i tried to look on the other side but can't tell very much about it. again thanks for the info. you all sure have some nice looking trucks!!

On my 55 1/2 ton a horizontal rail is fitted to the bottom of the window. Regulator arm with roller fits into this rail/track .As you crank the regulator, the arm raises or lowers the window. Yours is probably similar to that.

i can see the little roller you are talking about. in fact the window was resting on it! now i have to figure out how to get the (a) glass back in the track and (b) the track hooked on the roller. thanks 4j. it will be another week before i will be back in okla where my truck is. i try to get on here and get all the info i can get, print it off and work off the info i recieve. thanks again

You can see by this picture that the glass sits in a metal rail, like Bob says. With the window tilted (as seen below) it should fit into the regulator arm -- I hope this helps:

thanks for the pics alan, nice truck by the way, another question for you - can the metal strip that the glass sits in be put back on and then the window put back on the regulator without taking the vent window out??

I don't think you can get the window out, or put it back in, without first removing the vent window. But removing the vent window isn't that difficult ... I think the most difficult thing is putting the vent window back in; getting the door window into the felts -- and even that isn't too bad; just takes a little patience.
