Follow up question on my 50 Chevy PU, I am looking at replacement speakers for the radio in my truck. Custom Auto Sound sells replacement dash speakers that are supposed to bolt in . Are these decent quality ? How did the factory speaker bolt in? Thanks

Iwin517,
if you are talking about the radio for the 1950 Chev pickup, the speaker is secured by four screws that go on from the front of the radio. You have to take the chassis out of the radio to replace the speaker. Walmart sells a speaker that makes a direct replacement. You may have to bend the tangs of the terminal block down a bit to clear the chassis. If you don't want to get into to it, detach the wires to the speaker, add a length of two wires and run them to another location in your cab where you can mount a speaker. Any low power, low cost 4 ohm or 8 ohm speaker will do.

I have installed Custom Auto Sound 6 by 9 dual voice coil speaker in my 54 originakl location, fits perfect and sound is great. I have the stock AM radio, but installed secret audio below seat as well as built an 8 inch kicker sub woofer with 200 watt MTX amp. Installed real nice 4 by 10s in the doors and located the remote head in the glove box. System kicks butt and it looks stock.

I must revise my comment here. If your AD radio is of the earlier model, the one with the back cut on a slant, the speaker from Walmart will fit inside, with a little tweaking of the connection terminal block. If it is the newer version with the straight back, the speaker will not fit. If you want to use a speaker mounted outside of the radio, a low power 4 to 8 ohm speaker will do. Those radios do not have a lot of extra output power to spare.
