Tooling around in the middle of the desert in Nevada, came across this GMC in a ghost town called belmont.
The truck appears to have last been on the road in 1961 and is a 49 or earlier model.
The body panels are all virtually undamaged the Chrome is perfect and the front bumper has no bends or serious damage. The rear bumper is one of those industrials types that we've seen in other pictures.

Dry desert air preserves sheet metal pretty well. But it looks like someone has sliced off the back of the bed, as that looks like a stake pocket laying down on the bumper in your last picture.
Interesting that it's not shot up, being out in the middle of nowhere. I've see old vehicles in the Mohave desert that looked like cheese graters.

Looks like there's more than one old Stovebolt there. An older Chevy found off of Main Street in Belmont (Manhattan), NV.
And a few "Ghosts" still living there.

Yeah I saw that Chevy in the picture. It's sitting in a gravel driveway might even still run it looks like it's in pretty decent shape but there's only about 10 full-time residents in this place according to one of the locals.
I asked about the gmc. And the guy who is sort of the curator of the Belmont courthouse museum said that the people that own it won't ever sell it don't want to talk to anybody about selling it etc etc. So it'll just sit there and rot forever.

By the way, Manhattan is a town that's also a semi ghost town but it's about 15 mi away on over the mountains in another valley. But that little Chevy in the picture is right here in Belmont

That front bumper piece marked "Road Master" would sure look good on my GMC.
'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12 '52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
I had a suspicion that Google maps uses the Post Office that's probably in Manhattan (more population?) That Road Master bumper piece probably originated on a Buick. But it is kinda cool.

Yeah that bumper part is pretty cool. I spoke with one of the 10 or so permanent residents about that truck. He kind of rolled his eyes and scoffed and said the people that own it will never sell it they'd rather it just sit there and rot for eternity.
He's the guy who sort of the official historian of the town and caretaker of the courthouse which is a historic building that's under renovation..
So he shared my and most of your feelings that the truck should be restored or go to someone who can use the parts to restore another vehicle.
As we both agreed that there's nothing historic about a pile of rubble or rusted junk.
