53 3100. Removed pitman arm from gearbox, which was a bear to come off. Now starting to re-install. Any suggestions as to the better way of getting back on without damaging the threads on shaft. Seems to be going back on about the same as when removed, difficult.

Did you clean up the splines on the shaft? It should be snug, but go on smoothly as you tighten the nut.

Use a 3-corner file to clean up the internal splines on the Pitman arm. The splines on the sector shaft are tapered, so creating a looser slip fit as the arm is installed will self-correct as the nut is tightened.
