I know some advertising existed that showed them from back in the 40's and 50's but I thought it has been settled a while back that the colors on these engines was consistently Gray or "Blue Gray" (probably the light blue of car engines) according to Chevy documentations. I have seen a Metallic Gold one out there and wondered if this was historically accurate. This engine was NOT original; it is a 261 that someone thought they were smarter than anyone else and painted it that way, not sure if there actually were any in the 216 heyday. Hope this is not a taboo question...

Most 261 I have seen were either yellow or Alpine Green (Detroit Deisel green).
