Hey gang,
Looking for some part information on the oil seal gasket that goes between the rear hub's outer edge and the 5-bolt hub cover on my 1954 series 4100 1 1/2 ton.
It has a splined profile on the inside edge to match the inner profile of the hub that the axel teeth mesh into.
Approximate size is 4.72" OD / 3.30" ID. I took the measurements off my hub, not the actual old gasket itself.
I've attached pictures of the old gasket and the hub.

I need an original part number to use for reference if possible, or maybe someone already knows a good replacement?

I've been able to find quite a bit of part information online for this truck, but this one is hitting a dead end.

Hoping someone can help.

Thanks

ShopRag - It took a bit to wade through many of my Chevy Master Parts Books to identify the part that I believe you're referring to as Parts Group 5.866 - Gasket, wheel hub cap. For your '54 4100, that should be GM# 3685199 (screenshot below is from a 1954 Chevy Master Parts Catalog).

That GM# is still in use, on many different year group and models, but doesn't exactly match your pictured gasket, as the current available ones do not have the splined axle notches profile. The picture from this ebay ad for NOS GM3685199 Gaskets shows a cork gasket without the notches. If you look at the rest of the pictures in that ad, they show outside and inside measurements that correspond to yours.

A check of an original Chevy 1954 Truck advertising pamphlet shows a picture of the 4000 and up rear axle with the splined shaft and a cut away cap with visible gasket (see another screenshot below). That picture doesn't show a "notched gasket". Makes me wonder if perhaps someone created that gasket to make it easy to pull the axle shafts without disturbing the gasket???

Anyhow, hope you can use this info to order some new gaskets. wink

Gdads
I really really appreciate the effort you went through. I was at a dead end on this one. Had a similar thought about it being custom but figured no one would go to that length. It must be that way for a reason.
Now adding this to my parts documentation.
Thanks again.

You are most welcome sir! thumbs_up

I very much enjoy the digging/research to find info like this, especially when it can help a fellow Bolter. grin
