Yesterday, pulled the front clip off (which was just sitting on the frame) and got ready to install the engine. A couple friends came over to help with that. The engine crane wouldn't roll well on the asphalt, so needed to be persuaded with a pry bar to get the engine positioned. We managed to get it in place with the transmission bolted to the engine. My friends had other stuff to deal with (like getting ready to go fishing), so I spent a long day bolting up everything needed to make it go. Managed to get all that done except for the clutch return spring, which I'll need assistance with. I also finally installed the filler strips between the firewall and the fenders. I discovered they couldn't be installed with the fenders on, as the inner fenders interfered with getting to the screws. I also realized I should have painted them black, but they're going to remain Omaha Orange. Friends are coming back over to help with getting the front clip back on.
I WILL be making Sunday's show. Biggest one in town.

Fired it up for the third first time. Went without a hitch on the engine, but the shift mechanism was out of adjustment. Wanted to move every time I let out the clutch. Third First Start
Got the shift linkage adjusted and went for a test drive. Test drive

Engine replacement tag from back in 1954. That was the evidence that it was actually an Alaska Road Commission truck when I bought it.

Nice to hear it running and driving. Seemed like one of those TV garage shows where you had unreasonable deadlines, but you got it done by the end of the show. Great work Kevin!

So made it to the big show and shine today. First time I had it up to 50 MPH and was getting some vibration. I need to recheck the timing as when the centrifugal advance kicks in I was getting some knock. On the way back home my wife was following me and said I was going 60 when my speedometer never got to 55. Noticed some oil on the driveway when I pulled in, so need to check that out too. The only picture I got of my truck was one in the background of an unrestored 49 AD 3100. No videos of me pulling in either as my videographer (wife) didn't show up till later.

Glad to hear and see you made the lineup Kevin! Considering it's the first time you've been able to give it that level of a shakedown run, it sounds pretty positive IMHO. Yeah, it may have some things that need checking out, but you made it there, strutted your stuff and made it home without having to call out the recovery team.
