Does anyone know here to find the little metal piece that attaches to your license to put the sticker on? See image below.

I've never seen that before? We have to attach the sticker directly on our plates here in Utah.

I made mine from a piece of brass sheet I found at the local hardware store.

Is it generally accepted that these are for use with vintage plates that folks use on their antique vehicles?
I was under the impression that generally the sticker had to be permanently affixed directly to the plate.

I think that it all depends on the state. On my Year of Manufacture plate (we only need the rear plate) they gave me an expiration sticker, but the YOM plates and registration are permanent here and no sticker is required. Back in the day, a small plate for the current year would be bolted over the year on the plate, using one of the license plate bolts. Possibly as long as it's fastened with a stovebolt, they won't give you any trouble.

In Texas, YOM plates are issued a sticker that is good for 5 years at a much reduced rate. The sticker is designed to be placed on the YOM plate, but there is no flat surface to attach it to on my '52 plate. So I trimmed a piece of 1/32" brass plate I found at True Value Hardware to match the sticker on the top and both sides. I left the bottom long, drilled a hole in it and attached it using one of the screws that holds the license plate on. Been there for 13+ years.

Mine came from the DMV with the tags. You should get yours when you get the plates approved. If that has been done prior and you still don't have them try going to the DMV and ask for a pair.

I'm sure you can find them on (sc)Amazon or Summit racing, but here is one that I found and saved a while ago: https://kaferlab.com/collections/li...xpiration-sticker-plate-renewal-year-tag

Interesting. Here in BC, they stopped issuing stickers some years ago. The reason was that police cars have plate readers that tell the cops if the plate is expired or stolen; therefore no need for stickers!

Some BC drivers had issues outside BC. Cops would pull them over and give them a ticket for expired plates. Trying to tell a cop that stickers were not being issued anymore was a hard sell. I removed the stickers from my plates which was PITA!

A heat gun saves your nails when peeling stickers off. I typically did that to keep from piling up a bunch of annual stickers. Don't need to now, as we qualify for permanent registration as old people.

In Hawaii, we found that everyone would score across the sticker several times with a razor knife.
This prevents the theft of the sticker, but a sad situation.

When I registered the YOM plates a number of years ago they gave me one, but I need two as I need one for the month sticker. Next time I'm by the DMV office I will see if they can give me one. No place on the plate to attach the directly to the plate.

In Indiana we use an unrestored YOM plate. Indiana didn't make a new plate in 53 they made a "topper". They issue a modern regular plate to put the sticker on. You don't display the modern plate but you have to carry it with you. A decent YOM plate was hard to find but the topper was a nightmare. I ended up finding 3 at a local garage sale for $5. Evidently we ran 2 plates back them. Now we just run the back plate.
