Opened up the starter after sitting dormant for 40 years ( 54 302) other than the broken brush contact springs it looks pretty good. With the exception of the solenoid which is a casualty. Is there a modern 6 volt solenoid that is available?

Below is a scan from the 1929-54 Chevy parts book showing the solenoid starter. Maybe one of the experts on navigating these parts books can help with the question "Can a solenoid be added to a stomp starter?" If I were to guess the 4 mounting bolts for the solenoid would not play well in place of the 2 mounting bolts for the stomp switch. By the way, the solenoid is mounting backwards in this drawing.

A good machinist could probably cobble one of those 4 bolt solenoids onto a foot start housing, but it would take some pretty creative wiring to get the battery current to the copper lug on the housing. Maybe \a flattened piece of copper tubing? Jerry

Picture of the SS210 on O'REILLY web site does not show whatever the "slug" that is pulled in by the magnetic field is called. You'd have to find one of those.

Has been repaired, refaced the contacts on the lathe, made a new thicker insulator block to compensate for the material removed on the contact terminals.cleaned up the grounding surfaces. Tested OK
