53', 3100 with inline 235 from 1960. What style pump was used on the AD 3100's? Was it a long or short pump shaft? Truck is apart so I cannot measure radiator to fan clearances.

The engine would have a longer waterpump that is lower than the original waterpump. The fix was to either move the rad forward and to do that you would have to cut up the rad support or cut the waterpump shaft and use a shorter pully. The more recent fix is to buy a adapter plate and use the trucks original style waterpump with the pully that matches the generator grove and balancer .

As others have mentioned many times before, a post ‘54 235 features a lower placed water pump. This was to accommodate lower hood styles of that era. The drawback of installing a shortened water pump or moving the radiator forward is reduced fan cooling that has contributed to overheating in several members trucks.

Member Pre '68 Dave designed and offers a pump relocation kit that will put the water pump in the correct "sweet" spot for getting that engine in your truck and providing the best cooling. I’ve installed one on my ‘52 3100 with a ‘59 235. Check out his website here, for a ton of great info 235's and the relocation kit!

You can also send him a PM to buy his adaptor plate, and I highly advise going this route.
