The accelerator pump on my Zenith died over the winter. Found another Zenith NOS online, but it appears to have the same problem: the accelerator pump (see pic) is extremely hard to push down. It will pump gas when depressed but it takes like 10-15lbs of force. It returns just fine (and appears to pump gas in that direction too?). I assume that the pump plunger should be able to move with just the force of the long spring on its shaft?
The pic is of my old carb with an old overhaul kit in it (I think the blue plungers were silicone rubber maybe?)
The blue accelerator pump was current production until Zenith went out of business last December (thanks to all those buying the chinese knock-off junk, one more quality American company bites the dust after more than 100 years!).
Originally, Zenith offered a metal accelerator pump plunger, but if allowed to sit for a couple of years, it would sometimes rust.
And yes, the force of the spring would cause the accelerator pump to pump.

I do not know; I have not personally seen that issue. But just because I have not seen it, does not mean it does not exist.
