Hello, I am in the process of replacing the parking brake cables on my 49 Chevy one ton pickup. After pulling of the drums I found that the cables have been cut off just inside the backing plate and the mechanisms to connect the new cable to are missing. I have no idea what this mechanism looks like or where it is to be located. Went through my factory assembly manual and didn’t find anything there.
Questions: can anyone tell me where I would find these parts, and where I can find a diagram showing where they go and how they’re connected to the cable? Also, totally unrelated but can anyone tell me where to find a cover that bolts to the block where the fuel pump goes on a 235? I’ve converted to an electric pump. Thank in advance for any help!

Rubidu8 - Not sure how much stuff for your parking brake is missing from your description??? Just the piece that connects the cable to the brake shoe levers (see 1st pic below), or what else of the parking brake pieces on your 1 ton are missing (see the 2nd pic from 1954 Chevy Master Parts Book for diagram)?

Note that "clevis" in the first pic isn't listed as a separate GM# and though previously reproduced is currently out of stock from ever one of our vendors that lists it. You're probably going to need to find a donor vehicle for those clevis's. FYI - The Chevy Master Parts Books list 1937-52 1 tons with cable operated parking brakes as using the same part numbers for all those years.

Let us know on what's missing and we can offer more info from there.

Thanks much for this info and the pics. As I said I had no clue what I was missing as I’ve never seen these before. From what I can see, I’m missing:
5.149 lever
5.158 bolt
8.917 nut
8.932 washer
5.150 extension
5.151 spring
And the clevis

Im guessing that the clevis hooks to the ball on the cable and the lever. Looks like the extension hooks into the left shoe but not sure where the end with the spring goes?

Search Ebay for "fuel pump blockoff plate" The same one that fits a small block Chevy V8 should work on a stovebolt engine.

Correct on the clevis connection method. Below is a modified copy of the above diagram showing where the extension end with the spring goes when assembled on the backing plate. When the cable is pulled forward with the pedal pressed, it pulls the lever forward at the cable clevis connection, the lever pivoting on the eccentric (adjusting) bolt that attaches it to the rear show. The lever is forced forward pressing against the extension (lever meets extension in the groove of the extension with spring surrounding the extension rod and contacting against the lever) which spread the shoes out against the drum to cause the braking action.

Plus the 2 clevis ends for the cable to lever connection which have no GM# and must be sourced from donor vehicles as reproductions are currently out of stock everywhere.

As mentioned above, these are all found on 1937-52 Chevrolet and GMC 1 Ton trucks equipped with the rear axle parking brake mechanisms (not trucks with the transmission mounted parking brake assembly).

Just my best suggestion, but if you can't find a local donor truck, put an ad up in our Swap Meet Truck Parts Wanted forum to see if any other Bolters can help you out. Note: A quick and easy way to post what you need in an ad is to just copy and past the info I've provided here.
