Just curious about putting a throttle body on my 250 ci. I know I would need the brains and wiring, just wondering if it would work

Holly sells a Sniper TBI unit for Ford 200 and 250 inline six engines. There are a couple guys on this forum who have used it successfully on 216/235 Chevrolet inline sixes.

No reason it couldn't work on a Chevy 250.

You're not likely to increase performance or fuel economy but you won't have to deal with a carburetor if that bothers you a lot.

I think they're about $2000 last time I checked.

Seems like a lot o expense and trouble for little or no gain in performance or fuel mileage.

The Holley unit will support 175 HP. The complete kit, fuel pump, wiring and all is around $1400.00.

I have been tinkering with an Aces unit ($500 over Christmas) that I have been pretty impressed with.

I have the Aces setup on my '93 4x4. The 454 really likes the change from the 2 barrel throttle body.

How do we know there's no gain in performance or fuel mileage? Seems like losing the choke and being able to program the timing advance curve would be big fuel savers, right out of the gate. Also taking improved fuel atomization at all temperatures into account along with more precise acceleration enrichment and closed loop fuel mixture control, I don't see why you wouldn't gain a couple miles a gallon. Not gonna sit here and say that you'd automagically get to 22mpg with the EFI, but a couple MPG with greatly improved drivability would be very doable.

That's what the users on this site have reported. I think one of them is Dragsix. The main draw for the Holly Sniper was no more fussing with carburetors.

Do a search for Fuel Injection on this site and you'll find several threads where users of the Holly unit tell all and post pictures.

Have read about several RV guys going from '70s carbs to FiTech units, and loving the several miles a gallon improvement.

I am currently building a .060 over 235 for our '60 Apache project. This truck will be my wife's. I want her to have a reliable power plant, no starting or flooding issues. I believe the EFI will greatly increase the overall drivability of her Truck.

I am adding the Holley Sniper to this build. I expect some gains, I have changed the cam(Melling CCS1), done some head work, milled .040, added larger intake valves (1.94"). All this is to aid in powering AC, power steering, power brakes.

The Truck will also have a Lugnutz prepped T5 overdrive with a 3.90 rear gear. I am anticipating some decent milage gains as well.

Edit: Just a few things to consider about using an EFI. The fuel system requires a return line and high pressure pump. The Holley system uses an internal pressure regulator, the Aces I have used on another project required an external regulator. The exhaust is another subject, the system needs an O2 sensor within so many inches of the flange. The stock heat riser needs to be closed or eliminated. Unlike a Carburetor and EFI does not require the manifold to heated, the EFI supplies atomized fuel from the onset.

This is a very "Doable" project for an early inline 6, I think it will have some great benefits once things are all worked out. DO YOUR HOMEWORK...

A few years ago, I had mounted a Chevy TBI system on the 250 in my '57 truck. Easy to mount the throttle body with an adapter on an aftermarket intake. The main problem was with the distributor: either find a computer-controlled HEI distributor for a 250 (not common), or use a stock distributor with an aftermarket part to trick the computer into believing there is a distributor connected, or modify the original distributor to work with the computer. That is the way I went, the engine ran so smooth, it was unbelievable!!! An amazing set-up, with a 4-speed TH700R4 trans, the smoothest set-up I ever drove!
My next idea then was to use 2 throttle bodies on an aftermarket dual-carb intake, to solve the gas distribution issue on that long engine. I never got to it, we bought a camping trailer and needed to swap to a V8... Could have been great...
