I have the oppertunity to pick up a lincoln 155 weld pac, 220 volt wire feed.
Are they any good? It's used but very little, the one guy in the shop said it dont weld very well but then I've seen his welding and it's not even up to my standards,I can weld but in this shop they won't let me as they are the "expert's"
Also how much should I bid on the thing? It comes with the aluminum hookups also.I cant seem to find info on it online even at the lincoln website.
model#10163
Serial#u1990604572
30-155 amp
dc rated130@30%
ac input230 volt 1 phase
60 hertz
Wire speed 1-10
Any help would be appreciated.Tom

Tom,
Does it come with a gas bottle and regulator? If not, add those into your cost, as you will need them to make decent welds with it.

You can weld without gas with flux core wire, but you get lots of spatter and an ugly dirtier weld.

I assume you want to do bodywork on an old truck? With the gas, I would think that welder should do fine.

Do a little research before you bid. I just bought a brand new Hobart Handler 187 from Northern Tool for $650 with a 3 year warranty. It will weld to 185 amps and has 7 power settings, infinite wire speed. It came with a gas regulator and I simply had to buy a couple of spools of solid wire and a tank of mix gas. It welds very nicely and I think the price was very good for something that will meet probably just about all of the average guy's welding needs. It will weld 24 ga sheet to 5/16" in a single pass. That takes care of a lot of things.

I'm not trying to sell you on something else-- Lincoln makes quality products, so unless something is wrong with that one, it should do fine. I am just trying to give you an idea of what price a probably slightly better welder goes for new.

Also, I have gotten a lot of expert advice from the forum at http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/
They are partial to the hobart/miller family of welders, but they know about all kinds. Based on their advice when I bought my TIG welder it was not a hobart or miller. Somebody there would know about that model Lincoln. The only Lincoln I know anything about is their PT-185 TIG machine.

Here is Lincoln's info on the weld-pak 155: http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/equipmentdatasheet.asp?p=7103

I hope this helps a little.

Pretty sure that model is simply a repackaged version for one of the big box stores (either HD or Lowes) and is in all reality the same as the Lincoln SP-175T. That particular model retails for around $800. The specs look identical. Not a bad model at all in my opinion.

Just remember though the duty cycle on it is around 20% I think I saw.

Think you might need a gun type feeder. You can't push aluminum wire very far without it kinking up. Congratulations on the GOOD buy.
I have a 135 lincoln and am very satisfied with it. A little larger would be better tho.
If it didn't come with a regulator, I have extras.

Good Buy! I have the 135 Lincoln welder and it has worked flawlessly for the past 4 years. The 155 should give you good service.

Thank's guy's, Yeah it has the regulator also, but it's the non adjustable type.I'm thinking I may have to get a different one depending on what type of welding I'm doing.A friend of mine is going to be re-doing an aluninum boat, welding up old holes from downriggers and other attachments. We are going to use it for that and see how it goes.Tom
