Maybe a dumb question, but - Does anyone protect the wood blocks used in mounting the truck bed or do you just use them bare? Wasn't sure if I should put a coat of something on them before use.

I just stuck mine on as they came to me - no coating. But if you're looking for longevity, it sure wouldn't hurt to put some type of coating on them.

I just brushed on a quick coat polyurethane since I had some on the shelf.
