Hey,

I have a new to me ‘49 GMC 1 ton long bed, Canadian model 9434. It’s currently in the shop getting some front disc brakes. I couldn’t find anyone who would touch my 17” 3 piece split rims, so I went with some 16 x 6 steelies and radials (I know, but it’s going to be driven on the regular, and Coker radials that look like bias ply were not in the budget). The 1 ton has longer hub cap clips, and it seems they don’t exist to buy. I’m hoping a metal fabricator is willing to make some so I can use the original hub caps. I really don’t want to go with the baby moon dog dish caps that will fit.

The shop says it is in great shape, just wants a to run, no leaks. It was converted to 12V before I bought it. This was truly a well cared for barn find without a lick of rust. I’m happy to have it. It’s not a garage queen like my last truck, but for an old working farm truck it is great!!

I’ve never had a truck from the 40’s. My oldest was a 53 & my most recent that I just sold was a ‘68. I’m an older guy now, and I plan on this being my last truck.

I’m happy to be here, and I’m sure I’m going to have lots of questions. Thanks for approving my membership.

Welcome! That's a nice looking truck.

About the hubcap clips. Remove them from those 17 inch rims and use on the 16's.

That has been my plan, but the clips are larger on this truck than the ones you can buy these days. It needs to be just a smidge longer to hold my hub caps. I don’t know that there are enough salvageable clips to drill out & reuse just yet. Thanks!

The 68 has gone to live in Texas, that was the agreement for me to bring the 49 home. 😂

We haven’t been able to salvage enough. That would have been the easiest route. I’m not sure how to source some additional 17 inch rims that I can go drill out a few clips from. 😂

Welcome to stovebolt.com . Beautiful truck. Hard to believe it has no leaks, I thought they all did, unless they have no fluids left in them. Good luck with it.
