Anyone know what size/pitch the threads are for the 3 screws that hold the headlight retainer to the bucket?
For some reason I have 2 new retainers but only enough screws to work with one of them and I can not seem to determine what the pitch is of the screw threads. An 8-32 seems to want to start but not screw in as if it is the wrong pitch.
By saying 8-32 you are indicating a UN thread. Kevinski is showing you a sheet metal screw. They are not 8-32. They do go by no. 8, and so on, but thread pitch different. Tapered. Measure OD right under head. Take one with you to hardware store.

They are machine screws, not sheet metal screws. The buckets are new replacements from one of the typical vendors and the holes are extruded/elongated to provide a few threads for the screws to engage.
I will take one of the screws I have to the hardware store to see if I can find the equivalent locally.
For future reference the screws were metric (!), M4x10.
I am sure the thread is a result of the off shore manufacturer and not what the original buckets had but headlights are in, just need to get the trim parts (mine are pretty beat up).
Out of curiousity, is there enough meat on the mounts to drill them out and tap it for a 10-24?
An M4 is too large to convert to an 8-32, but down the road it might be worth converting to an American thread for consistency with the rest of the truck.

I hate it when that happens! I had a similar thing on offshore tie-rod ends. I had to dig out the metric tools to fit the bolt heads. GRRRR!
