I'm mostly concerned with the bed metal being in good shape. I don't have to have fenders or a tailgate but they wouldn't complain. Short bed would be preferred but long would be fine. I'm in NW Arkansas. Trying to keep my GMC a GMC. I cant find a suppler for a new metal bed.

Here's a technical article for those interested: https://oldchevytrucks.com/blog/2010/02/1940-1946-gmc-metal-bed-bottom/

I found one of them once. It was an ad just placed on the Market Place. It said it was a 50's pickup box for sale. When I looked at the picture I recognized the fenders and that at no 50's box that's a 40-46 box (in real good shape). I banged out a message as fast as I could that I was on my way with cash. He wrote back "not so fast mister I got a guy coming to look at it". He told me he would let me know if he didn't take it. Never heard back and the ad was gone. Still searching, over 4 years. You already know they are very very rare. I haven't gone down the road of scavenging junk yards yet but as I get closer to completion on my 46 I will most likely have to. So the moral of the story is if you find one quick is probably not quick enough. Good luck on you search.

I ended up getting my box, fenders, and running boards for my '35 maple leaf from American muscle car. I did come across the odd piece online, but the cost/time to rework them didn't make sense to me.
