Mercy, take a break for a while and when I come back the 'Spoon has gone from a superhighway of idle off-topic chit chat to a doctor's office waiting room where no one talks to each other. What happened? Did y'all solve all the world's problems and I didn't notice? OK, I'll start. How 'bout them Cowboys???? grin

Cowboys? We're going to have a great year, folks. No oddsmaker I've seen is willing to give us the likelihood of even a 50/50 season but rumor is it possibly could happen if other teams choose not to appear for the games and send some elementary school teams instead. Have you bought your season tickets? They have a whole bunch of them for sale and I think each seat is only $6,500. "Look honey, I made $13,000 of our Social Security pay disappear into Jerry's crazy nepotistic cesspool and as a bonus we can spend Sundays fighting bumper to bumper traffic and paying $150 to park."

How 'bout them Cowboys, indeed?

I've got to go with the Chefs...er Chiefs myself simply because of the regional thing. I don't usually follow professional sports. Most of them are over paid and have made the cost to go to a game too much. I love college and high school sports because most of those kids (while some are hoping to be pro eventually) are playing for the love of the sport. I follow our local community college closely. I graduated there before most of the students parents were born. grin

We have the Utah Grizzlies hockey team and they are a AA level team - lots of young players working their way up to the Colorado Eagles and then to the Avalanche. Last season Utah got an NHL team (Utah Mammoth). My Grizzlies' tickets on row three behind the goalie ran me about $1,300 for two seats - very affordable. I looked at the Utah NHL team tickets and the cheapest tickets in the lower bowl were $5K per seat. Um, no thank you. I'll keep my Grizzlies tickets, but this is their last season in Utah - moving to New Jersey I think. Not sure if the NHL team will bring their AA team from Phoenix to fill the void. Guess we'll find out.

I agree. I usually check in every evening, and sometimes there's not a single new post in the Spoon, or 1 or 2 at best. Of course, sports talk isn't much better. frown

Agreed. Professional sports is to culture what McDonald's is to cuisine. I lettered in two sports in high school -- made the All State team in one, and took third place in the New England Championships in the other -- that one (Crew) got me into the Naval Academy (my academic performance didn't ... frown ) and rest, as they say is history. In that boat ("1st Boat"), we all did pretty well -- Starting from the bow -- Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Naval Academy. So yeah, sports has a purpose.

At any rate, the 'Spoon (historically) is *always* slow this time of year. People are out living life, doing their thing, etc, etc.

It picks back up when the days get shorter and colder.

HMMMMM- - - - -overpaid, underworked shaved apes don't impress me, no matter what shape the ball happens to be that they're kicking, throwing, or bouncing! Even NASCAR went spiraling down the porcelain throne about the time Dale Earnhardt died!

Jerry ... Have you ever seen a rugby match?? I'm not a fan of ball sports, either ... but ... Rugby is different.

And NASCAR ... About the only difference I see between NASCAR and the WWF is that NASCAR has cooler uniforms.

Jerry, have you seen NFL players lately? Definitely not shaved. Some have more hair than the average ape. cantlook
But I agree on the overpaid part. That applies to all professional sports IMO.

I inspected some warranty repairs made by a Chevy dealer on a Corvette owned by a Tennessee Titans running back- - - - - -the technician who did the work said the guy was about as sharp as a bowling ball!

I just saw a story about a football player going from Dallas to Green Bay (I think those were the teams?) $188million for four years, $136million guarantied. Wow!

Because of crap like that the average ticket is over $250 per seat. Add $15 for a beer and another $10 for a hot dog plus $50 to park a mile away and you're looking at an easy $1500 to take the family to a game. That's obscene. Unclothed skin has nothing on that.

I think John is correct on the odd non American sports like rugby and cricket. I have no clue on the rules, but at this point in my life, they make me think a bit more trying to follow than the hum drum of foolsball and such. I did like watching Spokane Chiefs minor hockey. Had season tickets until the cost went thru the roof. A dog, tortilla chips with cheese and a beer was over $40. And you couldn’t have just one beer.

I’ll sit here and watch the ole ‘sticky wicket’ plays on the boob tube drinking my prune juice.
