Are there any tricks to installing the spring in the P/B handle on a 36 gmc T-14? Got a new spring and the diagram is a little fuzzy on how it goes together.

Not sure if your '36 is similar to my '46?, but here are a couple pics I have. Not sure they'll help. I've not taken mine apart, so I'm no help trying to install a replacement spring.

That's what mine looks like. The replacement spring has a bent tail on the end that goes into the small hole in the long pull bar. it doesn't seen to go in to the hole far enough. My original spring that part was broken off and missing.

‘37 looks identical to UtahYorks’s ‘46

FAST55 - Here's my thoughts (if they may help) in installing that spring.

1 - Unbolt the moveable handle from the pull bar and the actuating rod.
2 - Slip the new spring short end into the pull bar hole, wiggling it around and about to get it up inside the handle grip till the spring pivot eye is nearest the opening.
3 - Use a zip-tie to secure the spring to the pull handle through the spring eye to keep it from working/dropping back out of the pull bar.
4 - Compress the outer leg of the spring towards the pull bar (to about the released handles position) and secure with one or more zip-ties, with enough of the spring leg to stick out and start to feed into the grip handle.
5 - Slide the grip handle over the outer spring leg, holding it compressed as you push the zip-ties holding it in place out of the way to allow the handle to settle down to where the bolt holes align.
6 - Maintaining the grip handle compressed, install the bolts for the grip handle to actuating rod and pull handle to hold everything in place.
7 - Cut off the no longer needed zip-ties and you should be set to go.

I'm interested to know if this was helpful or not. headscratch smile

That sounds like it should work and I can do it by myself. I'll let you know how this works out, probably not until next week .

I got the spring installed and it seems to work as it should. I used your method with the zip-ties. Next step is attaching the the bell crank to a crossmember and making the rod's fit and they pull the brakes on.
