Thank you for the feedback. Although I was asking about the plate or (what the book calls the "lower baffle") behind the grill. I think its for air flow? I am missing how it attaches. The three bolt holes on the end. see picture.
The piece I outlined would be the baffle. It's analogous to the part on an AD truck.

I’m sure it was probably very similar to the Chevy. I happen to have that all apart on the doghouse of my 37 Chevy and here’s a picture. The lower part has a half a dozen stove bolt and square nuts, attaching it to the chin. It appears somebody just put in a convenient, rectangular piece of sheet metal to yours and put a hole in it for the crank.
