Looking for suggestions or ideas on fans.

What I have:
1950 Chevy 3100
Aftermarket direct replacement aluminum radiator
80’s small black, has water pump, with belt drive fan
Draws air but not really efficient since the fan doesn’t really line up directly in the center top to bottom

Looking at creating a custom fan shroud or should I remove the belt driven fan and go with an electric fan? Any suggestions on what might be the best route to take?

What I have done seems to work great .

I bought a composite fan shroud that has to be cut out and enlarged the mechanical fan from 15 inches to 18 inches. I have the stock radiator and a new 302 GMC straight 6 . During the break in of the new motor, it never got hot and the worked so well that when idling, the condenser electric fan ( pusher) spins fast from the mechanical fan draw.

It was easy to cut the shroud to fit and I had studs welded on the radiator to accept the shroud and keep it in place.

Hope this helps.

Where did you source a composite shroud?

I used an electric fan but made a shroud from sheet metal that could be fashioned for the mechanical fan. The design of the shroud is not complicated, it needs to be deep enough to get air throgh the radiator and positioned relative to the mechanical fan to provent short circuiting. I believe the shroud should be close to the middle of the fan blade pitch but others may have better information.
