Hello Canadian Stovebolters,

I know it is a sensitive subject, but I need to ask it.

Who is around as a supplier north of our border.

Or, are we affected by any tariffs our (Canadian) Government has added?

Cheers, Joerg K.

Joerg - Your question may fit best in the Side Lots BC Bolters forum as they are the closest to your Alberta location. I've moved your post there for further conversation as they will probably best be able to answer your questions. wink

Thanks Dan, I was thinking very hard if I should start the discussion, but it will be a good chunk of change if I have to add 25% to my rebuild bill.

Understood. Hopefully there are some fellow Canadian Bolters that will chime in here and help you navigate the best you can. smile

Came across this one:

https://www.classictruck.ca/contact

Search string:

canada antique chevrolet truck parts

Use variations, see what is out there.

Or ask local old trucks guys at car shows.

At this time car parts are not impacted by the tariffs. CUSMA is still valid.

My truck needs new front shocks. Last weekend, I went shopping.

I called the local Bumper to Bumper store and they told me the shocks were a special order and it would take 6 weeks to get them. Canadian Tire was useless as their website insists that you enter your car make and model and 1954 is too old - the website won't let you search by part #. Amazon listed the part but at an outrageous price.

I have bought parts through KMS tools CAR Parts, but you have to wait. Your parts will be included in their next cross border shipment whenever that may be.

I bought the shocks from Rock Auto. Price was good and the shocks will arrive Thursday. No tariff.

If you are close to the border and have an address to ship to, it sometimes is worth it to pick up orders in the US. My area has a boarder crossing store on the US side that offers a service to have your packages sent to for 4.00 per package. I have done this for Rock auto purchases as the international shipping has gone up in the last few years.

Follow up to the above post.

Shocks arrived today on time without any extra charges or other issues.

Shipper was UPS which normally rips us off at the border. Rock Auto uses an independent broker called Mantoria which saves us money. thumbs_up
Total shipping for the shocks was a reasonable $16.99

A friend of mine bought a fuel pump from a supplier in Florida. UPS charged him a $100 brokerage charge on top of the shipping! big_eek

I did find a supplier of bed boards only 40km away from me. He says he can use any wood one desires, but good pine is hard to come by.

Prices are within the range and he claims one week turn-around time.

Just for info.

I concur with Kevinski. (Although, I do realize that not everyone is close to the border.) Luckily, I have a friend who has a summer place in Point Roberts, WA, (I live in Vancouver) so I ship to there. The difference between shipping costs to Canada vs to Washington can be significant (Ex.: $15 shipping to WA, $75 to $125 for the same part into Canada. I price things from US and Canadian suppliers and factor in currency exchange, etc., and make a decision.) I've had some success getting parts from NAPA Canada for my '47. Their catalogues go back into the 50's. Lordco's catalogues only go back to the 60's.

It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it.
