To All, It's about that time of year, we are about 2 months out from the 5th Annual Jamboree. Our gathering is held in conjunction with the Smoky Mountain AD Nationals in Townsend TN. this year the dates are May 29-31. If you are planning to attend please confirm your lodging as accommodations are going fast. This years AD Nationals is the largest yet, there are over 350 Trucks registered already. Typically we gather on Saturday afternoon for a group cookout and fellowship. It's a time for the Southern Bolters to get to together with friends, old and new, this is a family event and everyone is welcome.

I am in the final design stages for T shirts, it will be finished by mid April. Watch for updates on plans and events, be sure to check out the Smoky Mountains AD National's FB

Wife and I will be there Thursday thru Sunday. We plan on bringing a small propane grill, at least one table and maybe a Blackstone griddle.
May even bring a truck?

Tom and dad reserved our room at checkout last year. Tom registered at opening. We will be there Thursday evening. I think this will be our 4th year. Thank you Craig for moving the Southern
Bolters Jamboree from Lebanon to Townsend. We did enjoy Lebanon while there.

Well the decision has been made and it is no. Without a co driver and a truck and climbing old age it is prudent that I stay home. I will miss seeing every one.

Just quick update. I have the design for this years t shirt, it will be going to the printer next week for final changes. I'll post the design once that is completed... I have the Tool Set to be Raffled off at this years event.
I will have stickers again this year, Jon is working on a 30th Anniversary design as well. I will see that Dave adds the 30th design to the back of the event shirt. If you haven't made lodging plans, you should do it soon. This years event is the largest yet for the Smoky Mountain Nationals.

TUTS do you want us to reserve the pavilion at the campground, if so which night? I do have a working grill this year, lol

Pavilion is ours for Friday night.

I will have a portable gas grill and a portable charcoal grill with us this year.
Maybe some hotdogs for lunch Saturday at the show?
I can also bring a portable Blackstone Griddle if someone wants to do some fancy flipping.
Vicki and I plan on being in Townsend Thursday afternoon.

Don

Edit: Vicki should also have some of her cookies to snack on, if I don’t make her mad?

Sorry boys, I have no control on making Vicki mad. I just say and do things as I see fit.
The same with Linda on modifying her truck to make it more drive able for her. It was just a suggestion.

So I guess I may be meeting up with a cold greeting in Townsend?

Another update on the Smoky Mountain Nationals and 5th Jamboree. We are moving from the location we have had the past 2 years. Dave is moving the Food Trucks to the front area. The registration tent and stage are moving to center of the show grounds, we are going to be located there as well. The one change is that our Odd Year Trucks(Trucks other than AD series) will probably be located near the Tennis Courts.

Dave has been extremely accommodating to us over the past few years, we will just adapt to what changes need to be made. The 2026 show will be moving to a new larger location, Dave will make an announcement soon.

I ask that we all be flexible and as Dave said " Have an open mind".. grin

Got my show confirmation yesterday in email.
We won’t have a AD, but the entry fee goes all to charity and I would like to donate.

I looked at the FB page for the show but I didn't see where to go to register... Can somebody share a link as to how to do that?

Also ... If anyone camping wouldn't mind sharing a space for me and the Quigley (and trailer) for a night (not sure which yet), I'll gladly contribute to the cost. I am self contained smile and need nothing but a place to park.

If y'all don't mind a no-account carpet bagger Swamp Yankee crashing yo shin dig ...

SMN also has a U-Tube site that Dave gives a weekly update on the show.
The last one he explained how things should pan out.

Nope -- still not seeing how to register. *IS* there a registration for this event or not?

Those who have been to the Midwest Stovebolt Roundup have met him at Mongo's Garage.

Don’t know how many Stovebolters will be there, Tuts may have an idea.
Leave pass? Does that mean you are trying to attend the Jamboree? If you do, you will be the celebrity guest star there. So you may be signing autographs.
And yes, Jim Carter has treated us real good over the years. Dave and the show directors have also treated us real good and we should be right next to the stage again this year.

I had some more stickers made up, these are just for our event tent. All of those members joining us will get one along with a "Southern Bolter’s " sticker.

These are a bit l arger than the event bag stickers and they are die cut .

If a suitable area can be arranged with a flat floor (maybe a trailer?) and access to electrical power, I've been discussing the possibility with another bolter of doing a demonstration of the rear main bearing seal machining procedure for the full circle oil seal. He will be bringing a bare 216 engine block to the show, and I'll have my cylinder boring bar and the adapter plate I made to fit it to the back of the block. I'll also have the spray nozzle aligning fixture for the 216 and early 235 oil pans.

Jerry, I will have a 16 foot flatbed trailer with jacks on the rear corners for stability. If we can get power to your port a bar, you can do your demo.
Maybe we should contact Dave, the show coordinator to see if he would want a demo like this?

Tut’s and Alvin, what do you think?

Don, Jerry, space is extremely limited at the show this year. Dave is having to move things around to accommodate the 350 Trucks that are registered.

If we had planned this sooner I would say yes, but I just don't see us having the room. Dave is moving the show to a larger venue next year. If we put a large demonstration in the works we should be able to make it happen then.

Over 350 trucks this year! Dave has been accommodating but not sure at this time since he moved our location. Where he is placing us I doubt power.....its up to Dave. I remember when Jerry did it at Griggs a few years ago......and you made those chips and pigskins!!

Jerry -- for power, will 110V/2KW gennie be enough? I can bring my little generator if it will do the trick.

Yes, the boring bar has about a 1/3 HP 110 AC motor or maybe a little smaller. 2KW should be more than enough. We could even set up on a forklift pallet in, or adjacent to the Stovebolt tent if necessary. The procedure takes about 2 hours or so and doesn't make a mess- - - -just a little pile of cast iron shavings.

I don't want to say yes and have Dave say no. We are already having one demonstration, Lugnutz (Jay) has put together a T5 transmission display and overview. Jay had this worked out with Dave sometime back.
I will contact Dave this morning and discuss this. I'll let you know what he says.

I spoke with Dave this morning. I laid out Jerry's plan and the the amount of space and use of a generator. Dave was adamant in saying no. He is currently working to accommodate 360 plus Trucks, various Vendors, numerous Food Trucks and everything else. He just doesn't see there being space available.

Dave also told me that he has had to turn away other vendor and sponsors who would like to set up displays, simply due to lack of space. They are also trying to eliminate the use of generators on site as to keep the noise down, this was the reason to move the Food Trucks to our pervious location.

Dave also talked about the overall theme of the Show. He wants to keep the Show based on fellowship and the love of old Trucks not technical in nature. He did say that going forward we could discuss some of these displays and Technical demonstrations for next year with the larger venue. We'll need to talk more about this after this years Show.

Maybe I'll need to sponsor my own show one of these days- - - - - -I've got a hundred acres to spread out on. Then I can get picky. I hosted the annual Guns & Ammo Magazine website "Southeast Shoot" here for 15 years before Covid shut us down- - - - -lack of enough motel space nearby.

With Jerry hosting and John only an hour away, I can foresee a Southern Wrench Fest in the future?

At the moment, virtually all my time is being spent dealing with my wife's progressively deteriorating health issues. Even taking a couple of days off to attend the Townsend show involves some pretty convoluted logistics to arrange for 24 hour sitters while I'm gone. Maybe someday- - - - -!

Dang, can I get in on this party? I'll be in the area delivering a transmission I am rebuilding for Chris Felchle. Looking to camp or?

Yes Cosmo, you will really enjoy this event and I assume you will be in your daily driver!
There are also plenty of places to camp in the Smoky Mountains.
