The two pictures below show using the same single stage rat rod satin black urethane paint and rat rod clear. The paint and clear used came from there original cans. The cowl and the dash were shot on separate but similar days. Indoor temperature and metal were equal. I can not for the life of me figure out how I got the dash flat and the cowl satin black. The cowl is the correct appearance. Do you have any Ideas?

Did the two mixes come from the same can? If not, they could have been mixed/labeled wrong.

I wanna say the dash sprayed drier. Either the temps were slightly warmer, the air had less moisture in it, or the can was held at a greater distance than the previous spray. The flow characteristics of the two are different.

Once you install the windshield, I don't think it will be noticeable.

Just MHO.

Maybe a bit heavier coats on the cowl and lighter on dash? I see orange peel on cowl like it was sprayed closer and a little heavier.

I can't figure it out either, but I do have an idea. Enjoy it. The flat will help cut way back on the glare. You will be the only one (well, besides all of us) to know that it was not intended to be that way. Proceed and enjoy is my idea FWIW.

I agree with Twin Jimmys. The stock interior paint wasn't glossy anyway. I guess to cut down on the glare like he said.

I found my problem. I'm old and senile. I'm the same age as my truck. The paint supplier has a rat rod black and a rat rod satin. I bought one of each at two separate times. One from the store and the other was online. After a short visit to the trash can I found one of the two cans. The other can was being used and on the bench. By the time I realized what I had done it was two late. Each can of black have a different gloss ratio. So I called the store and found a new flat black, Dead Rat Black. I sprayed the cab today and I is flat. Thank's all for your attention to my delema.
