I just installed six high bay LED lights in my shop and it made a really great improvement of the lighting.
The downfall is that my boombox radio has so much static now that I can’t listen to it when the lights are on.
I have read that the ferrite beads block will help, but do they work?
Are there any other ideas that I could try?

I’m trying to just turn the radio off when I’m working, but I tend to talk to myself more and that usually ends in an argument.

These used to come with phone cords etc. when we used to install fax kits on copiers. I bet I have thrown away a ton of them. https://www.digikey.com/en/product-...ucts/snap-it-snap-clamp-on-ferrite-cores

We have 48 high bay LED lights in the shop area at work and have no trouble with radio static. Although we have a ton of power coming in 480v 3 phase etc.

At home I still haven't installed mine as my home shop is jammed full for winter storage and cannot safely get the lights hung and wired. I do have problems with some radio stations when the overhead door is closed.

Greg, that is what I’m thinking about buying, they are cheap on Amazon, 60 for 18 bucks, but do they work on a radio power cord?
Are they supposed to be put on the radio antenna?
I don’t know?

My 30 year old, 3 dollar, auction boom box was working just fine before the new lights.

Don, I have a couple of 8-track players you could borrow, see if you like them. I can even loan some '70's country tapes.

The tunes in my shop come from a 70's era Pioneer receiver.

Buck, that does give me an idea, I also have a 70's model AM/FM radio with 8 track, no tapes though.
12 volt power source and a couple speakers plus I would have to rig up some kind of antenna.
Good food for thought!

Do you guys remember the short lived 4 track tapes?

I don't remember the 4 track, I'm way too young for that OLD stuff. I turned 68 about 59 weeks ago!

I turned 69 last October, Man did we grow up during a good time period!
But we better get back on topic before one of the topic monitors sends us to detention.

My new LED shop lights are messing with my radio also, so I'm interested in a solution.

I turned 68 61 weeks ago...lol There wasn't a computer chip anywhere in my High School building when I graduated...good times!

Whew! 1955? that was a long time ago. I'm a lot younger than you guys, January of '56. I have 4 LED and 2 cold start 8 ft. fluorescent in my pole barn shop, radio didn't change when I put in the LED's, maybe because the antenna is broken off and reduces the sensitivity? or maybe the steel pole siding absorbs some of the RFI?

Buck, my shop is also an unseated pole barn and I called it the barn until just recently when I installed a vehicle lift.
Now it’s a shop, and it sure beats working outside on the gravel.

I did find another small boom box that my wife had in the house and will try it out later today.
Maybe it is just the radio?

I do have heat in my shop area with some styrofoam insulation and drywall, I notice more radio issue when the furnace is running than with the lights, I don't think I'll try to re-invent the wheel, it's good enough for the girls I go with. Try a different location/outlet for the radio if you have several circuits.
