Hi all I need to adjust the eccentric bolt not sure how to do this. The manual doesn't help a lot do I adjust the brakes to zero drag then pull off the drums and adjust the bolts. And then adjust parking brake cables? Thanks

When you're adjusting the brakes, there should be no tension at all on the parking brake. I disconnected mine at the pivot bar when I did my brakes and then hooked it back up when I was done.

Mikey - Just a note first that it helps folks offer the best advice if you tell us what your working on please and thanks. In looking at your other posts, gonna guess this is on your 1953 3600 (3/4ton)?

I believe you are talking about this bolt? When I was putting my brakes back together, I had no idea how to adjust. I oriented them the same way on both sides. I wouldn't mind knowing how to adjust them though.

The manual (page 5-19) says to assemble the toggle lever with the high side of the eccentric bolt toward the brake shoe lining. The high side is marked by the flat side of that bolt.

Adjusting the Parking brake toggle lever is done with the eccentric bolt AFTER all the other adjustments with the new shoes are completed and the shoes are in the fully released position.

Read the 5 steps to adjust the parking brake on page 5-22.

Thanks Otto! I know I'm going back to check mine. I'm assuming this is the flat side in the picture.

Yes. Look at the photo in your reply #830. There is a flat cut into the end of the screw where you adjust it with a flathead screwdriver.

Thanks Otto You have been very helpful. I appreciate it. Also The eccentric bolt was all the way tight when I took it apart. Is this correct upon reassembly thanks again.
